11 days after surgery and eating normally

Recommended Posts

I get little tiny burps alot since the band.

They dont hurt at all. Sometimes they are tiny gurgles...

This happens if I drink a dixie cup of grape juice (3 ounce cup with ice)

I am assuming these are not PBing.

The times when I felt my chest was being stampeded by horses and it felt like I had to belch/ heartburn but it wouldnt come and my chest hurt so bad and all that...

(When I was still in the hospital trying to get down ice chips)

I assume THOSE things were PBing..

Am I right??

Hi Alex,

Everytime I read a message you've posted it really has extra meaning for me because I'm about the size that you started off at, and you always have something relevant and interesting to say.

Thanks for your input - it really gives me inspiration.

Take care, Rachel.

P.S: Yes, I know I have to get one of those info things happening at the bottom of my messages, but for a computer moron it's a bit daunting. It's like instruction manuals - I just look at them blankly.

Mine usually happens when I've not chewed enough and I can usually tell as soon as I swallow it's gonna happen. This has been one of the hardest things for me to change is gulping my food after I've gone too long between meals. When you get that golf ball feeling, don't inhale, it makes it much worse.

Nykee, welcome to the world of post lapband lol

You will burp gurgle and do all kinds of new things

PB stands for Productive Burping. Different people describe it differently. To me, it means: When things start feeling stuck, a productive burp, usually causes whatever was stuck to finally(sp) go down. Or worse case scenario, a productive burp can lead to a throw up--it depends on how fast or big the bite was. It is Not a throw up, but, a liquidy burp. I remember having them to some degree before band, but, you will definitely be able to tell a difference.

Nykee,

FYI too, If you feel a heartburnish feeling in your chest, or all of a sudden a weird sensation in your chest that means something is going down slow. STOP eating at that time. If you continue eating with this feeling, you will more than likely have to throw whatever it is up, and it will not be a pleasant experience. Even though it is uncomfortable (the heartburn like feeling--to me it's like taking a pill and it getting stuck---but stronger) usually it passes after at least 10 minutes, but, sometimes it takes longer/shorter. Eventually most of the time, it will go down. I have had times where it lasted over an hour and I finally gave up because I just couldn't handle it and threw it up, but, I try, when I have to throw up to use my throat reflexes and not my stomach muscles to do it.

I know you haven't started eating solids, but, I wanted to give you a heads up. I wish I had known about this board when I had surgery, it would have really helped. The first time I had this happen to me, I thought I was having a heart attack.

Rachel,

I sure wish I would have found this site prior to now. I'm 2 weeks out and have been eating some not so good food. I ate 1/2 of a taco today for lunch with some refried Beans. I ate some baked potato tonight for supper with a few pieces of moist grilled chicken. I'm supposed to start soft foods tomorrow. I just found this site tonight. The reason why I have eaten off of my Dr's orders is because the nurse at his office was banded in December and told me that I should eat a 1/2 piece of pizza before I get my fill (end of next week) because I won't be able to eat it after that. She said she eats 1/2 taco but chews it very carefully and very well till it's mush. Now, I'm VERY afraid, I have also screwed up my band. I've been eating this way for the past few days...

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is... Your not alone in your fears...

Hi I noticed that you had a slippage and are going to get re banded I was wondering do they use the same band? Is the cost the same as the first surgery? I heard that the cosst of the band it self was $4000 so I was wordering if that should happen to me would it only cost $4000 to get rebanded should I slip? I had to self pay $8000 for the surgery with Dr Ortiz in Mexico and I dont think I would be able to come up with $8000 again, Maybe $4000 but that would not be easy, I so want this lap band to work I am just 4weeks out of surgery my first fill is in 3 weeks, how did you know your band had slipped what were the symptoms and do you know what caused it? Thanks and I am glad to see you are still making progress and not backsliding is a miracle.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
