Hi everyone! My name is Patsy. I had my lap band done on 9/13/07 by Dr. Nirmul of True Results, so far I have lost 40 pounds. I go for my third fill next week and I am consulting with a nutritionist. I don't have any problems with food getting stuck but my weight loss seems slow so I probably need more fill. The funny thing about band surgery is that sometimes I feel like I ate so much, but when I write it down it really wasn't! I eat about 1/3 or less of what I used to.

I live in NW Glendale. Anyone interested in having a get together some Saturday or Sunday? I also have a bunch of jeans and work slacks in size 24 and a few size 22 if anyone is interested. I have to go through my closet again. Some of the pants are brand new but now that they fit I don't like them! I haven't had to buy much cause I had so much in my closet that were too small. When I go down one more size I will have to start buying again. At least now I have more room in my closet. I also have some size 24 and 26 bathing suits if anyone does swim aerobics or is lucky enough to have a heated pool.

Patsy

I think there is a Phoenix area get-together in the works for the weekend of the 26th. Maybe we can carpool if it isn't in our part of the valley.

Hi I jsut found this forum. I had lap-band done June 1, 2006. I have lost about 40 lbs and am somewhat discourgaged at this point. I live in Queen Creek and it is a drive for me to the hospital to get my fills. So far I have had only problems with them. She either puts in too much or not enough. I have 5 days to let her know and then I have to wait several weeks to get back in. Has anyone had this problem? I don't know what to do. My husband has been really upset about the whole deal. Espically when I am spitting and throwing up. Any suggestions? thanks

I have to tell you I am a little discouraged too. I don't think that I got the after care I should have. It all seemed so disorganized. Now I live in another state with different insurance and I went to a Registered Dietician here. She was a lot more knowledgeable than the one I saw in Scottsdale.

I have only lost about 45 lbs. I know I don't eat the right things. I have things like chicken and eggs getting stuck. Toast is a no no too. So I eat the things I can, which are usually not good choices. My blood work came out ok even for not taking Vitamins.

I am going to go to the support group here in Wisconsin.

Hi, I am in Peoria and I would love to get together with anybody who is going through this crazy LAP-BAND®®® life. I had mine done through Tru Results in Scottsdale by Dr. Nirmul during the end of May(09). I have been really struggling with my decision because I have regressed to old behaviors and have been at a stand still for numerous weeks. I was actually terrified that I was having mini heart attacks and on deaths bed untill I started reading this site that explained the chest/shoulder pain. I need a pep talk ...anyone willing?:tongue2:

christine,

I am a Christine also. I live out past Surprise, and I've been banded for a little over two years. Drop me a PM if you would like to get together. I'm down about 100 lb from my highest weight and have maintained for over a year. I don't know that I have any great words of wisdom for you, but I can certainly commiserate on the bandster lifestyle with you!

I'm in NW Phoenix/Glendale border and my doc and their support group is way over in Scottsdale and meet at night. I have another medical condition that gets worse at night, and with my meds I can not drive that far on a weeknight. I would love a group nearby. Please let me know if you get going, and I would love to join! rrr87@hotmail.com please put lap band board or something like that in the subject so I know it is not spam. Thanks!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
