Anyone else having difficulty getting motivated to exercise?

Recommended Posts

In March, I will have had my band for 2 years. I have lost 40 lbs. That is great, except I want/need to lose 35 or 40 more and am having great difficulty getting exercise accomplished. My knees hurt, I'm tired, there are a million reasons I don't go. Anyone have any words of encouragement? I tried Curves for a while, loved it, but it's 30 miles away. I joined a place closer, but have to pass by the road to my house on the way home from work to get there, I tend to want to go home instead after an 8 1/2 hour work day. I am feeling really discouraged and don't know what to do. I thought I would make a new start with the new year, but maybe I'm trying to start too many new habits at once?

Is there a pool or anything near you? Swimming is a great exercise if you are having joint pain. Either doing laps or taking Water aerobics classes. Also using an elliptical machine is not so hard on the joints.

It sucks to start exercising, that is the hardest part. But once you get going you find out it is not so bad. Good luck to you.

i agree with babygrl, its tough to get started but once you do it and see the results, it gets easier.

if you are too far from a gym or not convenient, what about some exercise videos?

Biggest Loser has a few out, Walk Away The Pounds, the Dummies series is pretty good as well.

moving helps a lot.

I was getting VERY bored walking around a track. I was finding excuses not to go. I was very happy when I was able to swim and add some machines and Salsa dancing....It feels great and I'm making loads of new friends.

Finding something you like is going to make it more likely that you will actually go out and do it.

TV. Thats all I wanted to do when I got home. I watch the daily show and the cobert report and figured why not do something while I am watching. So i went out and got a treadmill. I walk 3mph during the two shows, so thats 3 miles of walking everyday and I didn't have to change anything in my schedule.

PS: It don't have to be a treadmill. It can be anything from a bike to just lifting hand weights the whole time. After awhile you will start looking forward to watching TV other then just to catch your shows.

Thanks for the ideas. Anyone besides myself get food stuck several times a day? We went out tonight to eat at O'Charley's with friends from work for a late Christmas party and I don't think I was able to keep one bite of my food down. I wasn't trying to eat horribly disallowed foods. Tried grilled chicken, baked potato. There were some fried potatoes under the chicken. I was in the bathroom 3 times in the 2 hours we were there with painful stuck food. It is so aggravating. I worry that people will think I have an eating disorder or something.

whenever i get stuck and PB, my surgeon recommended liquids only for the next 24 hours. your tummy is swollen from the PB and it makes things even tighter.

good luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
