Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

My starting BMI was 55. I played on the internet last evening and found those old charts. According to them, at 5 ft 2 in I shouldn't weight more than 132 ish. That means in their world, I started out 183 pounds overweight. Now, I dont' expect to be 132 pounds, but it was interesting because 60% of that is 110 pounds. That would put me at 205. I want to crash the 200 mark and feel that anything more (or less) is gravy. Ideal target is 160-170. So, I feel that this is all very doable.

You are the same height as me. I never thought I would see 140. I bet you will be surprised. If you exercise regularly, you will be able to lose more than you think.

Orea, Welcome to one of the best threads on this board! We are all very supportive here.

I run into this once in a while, I've found that if I drink at least 8 ounces of Fluid before I eat (more usually) that the food stays down better. But remember, no drinking for an hour after!

Small bites, and chew, chew, chew!

Keep up the good work!

Sue Stenzel (who has been gone for a while and am enjoying the discussion once again.)

So nice to see an over 50 group. I was banded 11/2006 down 91 lbs. Last 6 months has been very slow. I haven't had to have a fill since 11/2007. Thank you for the info on slider food. Seems that maybe my down fall.

BTW does anyone have acid reflux. I have had it for the past month and not sure why. Since I haven't had a fill in over 8 months it can't be that.

Yep slider foods are very dangerous :wink2: and after a while we can lose track of what we eat - I don't know if you ever tracked your calories but between eating more hard protiens and tracking your food - you maybe able to get back in to the weight lost mode.

Even before the news broke today about keeping a food diary - it is something I have done from day one - I learn this in WW yrs ago. For me it is a good way of keeping track what goes in my mouth - I have a freind who does this when she wants to lose a couple of lbs (she is thin no weight problems) I asked her how she keeps her weight down - well when she gains a few - then she track to get back in to a healthier eating mode.

As for the acid refux - can't help much there I get a little heart burn every now and then even from drinking Water - but if i chew some gum it goes away... Call your doctor would be your best bet..

Yay! Maybe you can join WasA, Snowbird and I . We are going to have lunch at the Landmark in downtown Mesa. WasA has been telling me about it, then Snowbird suggested it too. Hopefully we could do it on a

Sat. so you could join us. If not, you and I can work something out for whatever is convenient for you!

OH! A SIX!!! (a 6!!!!!) That is so cool. I think I was bigger than that when I was born! LOL I'm down to 18 jeans from 24s. I'm not even 1/2 way and I feel so good & so thin (you know what I mean..not thin but I can feel my shape) I can't even imagine what I will look or feel like after another 60 or 70 lbs. I'm thinner now, than I've been in 15 years. I'm so grateful.

I'm jealous

I'd love to meet you in person. You're something else. I missed what the trip to Las Vegas was. Did it have something to do with the lapband or was it just a fun trip? I missed a couple weeks and just couldn't get caught up on my reading. :)

There was a discussion of food diaries a page back and I just wanted to add that I've kept one pretty much since I went on solids 4 weeks after surgery. I keep listing and calories. I use myfooddiary.com. I realize there are free food diary sites (this one is $9 per month) but it's the one I understand and am comfortable so it's a good investment. The only times I don't track is when I've made a stew or something with so many ingredients that I don't want to spend the time trying to figure it out...especially if I make it up as I go along and no recipe. Also if I'm at someone's house and they make something complex. But I use it 90% of the time, and when I went to the dr for a follow-up today (he didn't think I'd need a second fill for a while so no fill today), he was thrilled. Said I was ahead of the curve on loss- I'm down 45 today! I think writing it down all day helps me get enough fluids, and helps me see where I am going - I do adjust what I eat end of day by how many calories I see. This was unexpected. I never thought I'd count calories after lapband, but it helps me....it really does.

Just thought I'd throw in my experience with this.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
