Janet, I'm a girl that needs her Fiber. I use the Fiber one bars ( 140 c), one every other day and I eat Kashi Go Lean Cereal 3/4c for b'fast. Once in a while I have a piece of whole grain bread. That's working for me.

I wish it was working for me. I can't seem to get enough fiber. I put fiber one in my yogurt, eat all the Kashi (Kashi Crunch is my fav.) cereals, I put fiber in Water and drink it, eat fruit, bla bla and I am still constipated! It's driving me insane!

I have been eating oatmeal (weight control) for Breakfast - I have some kasha cereal 8 grm -- I am cooking dinner and just ck fiber content on spinach or french green Beans only 1 gr of fiber :blushing:

I am ok in the tmi subject as long as I get all my Water in - but the bad cholesterol was 121 where as before surgery I didn't have a problem (i think) - I guess I will have to add some sandwiches into my eating - I don't eat them much I have some WW multi grain bread 2 slices 100 calories but only 4 grms of fiber - heck how much fiber to we need to lower my cholesterol??

You're so good about cooking for yourself. I am so lazy. I hate to cook just for me.

They say the best thing for cholesterol is oats. So eating oat meal is a great thing! I was born lucky. I have low cholesterol. I take after my dad.

i get little fiber into my diet. I have not tried any fiber bars, are there any that actually taste somewhat good? I will admit I do not ned fiber to go daily, that is never an issue

I will have bloodwork done end of May before post op appt with endocrinologist...see what my cholesterol is then. I still take lipitor and bp meds, along with Vitamins, but nothing else. it is great to go from 8 pills down to 4

Hi Guys haven't been on in a while but I thought I wopuld put my 2 cents in about the fiber and Constipation. I was very constipated after the operation painfully so, but I started eating oatmeal for Breakfast with 2 tablespoons of ground flax seed meal on top. I have not had a problem since. Don't know if it will work for you denise but it isn't very expensive to try.

Janet, I think the recommended amount is 25 gms daily. There is a whole grain bread with double fiber in it.

I tried the benefiber a while ago and it helped but wasn't enough. The fiber One Bar has a lot more in it. The one I get is oats and cinnamon and has 9gm of fiber. My kashi has 10gms of fiber, plus some Protein.

The bar tastes like it's all held together with marshmallow fluff. There are also Protein type bars with high fiber in them.

I'm good with Water, three to four 16 oz bottles a day, plus a cup or two of tea.

I had to find a solution to not going often enough. It's not good for your colon for the waste to sit there too long.

I'l have to check out the flax seed and see how much fiber in that.

I eat grain bread, weetbix cereal (not sure if you guys have it there) and drink green tea and I walk every day... all those together make for a good constitution.

Janet and Phyllis you two crack me up! I have erased HOPE from my dictionary and will now be using WILL in place of it, lol.

I also suffer from Constipation so was glad to see the recommendations above. I'll have to try some of the Fiber bars, that might be good for a change.

Today is my 5 week bandiversary and the first day that I have no restrictions on my menu, yippee!! Well, when I say no restriction, I still have to avoid/limit high fat foods and foods with high sugar content, but I'm ok with that. I feel like I'm officially on my way to a healthy life today since I can make a wider choice of foods. This will only be a couple of days worth of picking the newer foods though, since I get my first fill this Friday and then I have to go back to liquids for 24 hours and then back to softer, bland foods for 2-3 meals, but that's ok if I get some restriction back, I can handle this!!!

Yeah, I have been putting ground flax seed on my Cereal for a long time.

It doesn't seem to matter what I do. I bet it is the Calcium.

Although, they told me at the health food store that it's really important to drink a ton of Water with psyllium husks. I have been mixing that in prune juice and following it up with a big glass of Water. She said psyllium husks can actually make Constipation worse. I do drink so much water now, I am about to float away.

What a great subject.

Sorry Denise I hoped it was something that would help. Oh Well,

Going to Coos bay tomorrow for an MRI Hope the weather is better than today

Quick question - When I feel restriction it feels like heartburn and it usually goes away about a half hour after I have eaten. But today I have had heartburn all day. The only thing that helped was a sip of wine and I wouldn't have tried that except it was a new one DH wanted me to try.

Could I be stuck?

Sounds like you are doing just great!

Keep up the good work.

You hang around here very long and you will figure out real quick that the word

HOPE

is a BAD 4-letter word to Janet

and she will get on your case if you use it,

so I HOPE you don't use it again!!

:hurt::biggrin::rant::biggrin::lol:

Here is another

 BAD 3-letter word... TRY ... lets add it to the list janet

When I make a protien shake, I add 1 Tbsp of Ground FLAX seed meal... also when I cook oatmeal, I use the Oldfashioned Large Flake Oats... they take 10 mins to cook, but are very high in fibre and protien. I make a big pot once or twice per week and then portion it out into 6 oz. containers, nuk it and add warm milk... very fast!!

So here's all I put into it. 1 1/2 cups Oats, 3 1/4 cups Water, handful of Raisins, 2 Tbsp of Ground Flax seed, 2 Tbsp Sesame Seeds, 2 Tbsp of Chopped Walnuts... I bring this all to the boil and turn down to SIMMER for 10 mins.

I put sugar free maple Syrup on it and skim milk... YUM!!! Beleive me it'll solve your "Demon of the Lower Intestine" and lower your Cholesteral too.

You're so good about cooking for yourself. I am so lazy. I hate to cook just for me.

One of the gals on the other Lucky 7 board, does all her cooking for the week on say Sunday... then she portions everything out, freezes etc... much more economical than bying Lean Cuisine's and also you KNOW what's in it... and can increase Pro. etc..

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
