Hello Perth here

I am due a new band 12th May.

It would be good if we had a chat site in Australia as good as the one on here.

Good luck with your new band! Thank goodness we have these options open to us, I can't bear the thought of living the rest of my life overweight and unhealthy!

There is a new Australian based chat forum like this one for support and information of all types of weight loss surgeries including the lap band:thumbup:

i got my first fill yesterday. it was over 5 weeks post op because i had to change my date. I was in bandster hell, i had no restriction, and i still drank my wine, but regardless of that dr watson weighed me and i had lost 7.5 kg!

After the op and before my fill i didnt once get sick, even though i ate too much too fast at times. Well this morning i got sick for the first time - it was not fun at the time - but im so glad to have that restriction...

Everyone says im looking good, and that only after 7.5 kg! I cant imagine what the reaction is gonna be when i reach my goal weight. Some family and friends wont have seen me since last christmas when they see me again next christmas...Its a great feeling knowing youre not getting fatter any more, only skinnier! YAY:biggrin::thumbup::biggrin:

Hi everyone,

My name is Debi and I am new to this website. I am having surgery next Tuesday with Dr Jefferey Hamdorf at SJOG in Subiaco..

I am about 110 kilos now and would ideally like to get down to 60-70 kilos. I have 2 adorable kids and a fantastic husband.

I am flying to Perth on Monday to have my last appt with him before the surgery..

I think I know what to expect, but maybe not, I am extremely nervous I know that much.

I think the hardest thing I find about exercising is finding the right type of music to walk to. Can anyone send me a list of good walking music, the kind of music that pumps and is fast in beat..

I would love to meet Perth banders, or just talk to you, with your advice and tips.

Have a good day..

Hi Debi

Good luck for your op next week. As for the music if you go to the general lap band and discussion and look in the fitness and exercise section one of the threads is a list of music people work out to. Hope this helps.

Thanks..

I do have one question, I have read on this thread about Optifast, Dr Hamdorf has not said anything to me about this, should I be doing this now.. What are the benefits..

Cheers

The Optifast is meant as a pre-op diet for a couple of weeks, to quickly reduce the size of a fatty liver. This makes the surgery easier for the doctor and can make it easier on your body and lead to an easier recovery time. Many doctors recommend it and apparently the higher your BMI, the more likely they will ask you to do it. My doctor, Dr Stephen Watson at St John of Gods Murdoch, didn't insist upon it but he did highly recommend it and showed me two videos of the surgery, one with a patient who had done it, one who hadn't. The difference was quite remarkable.

Ask your doctor about it when you go in for your consultation - he just may not have mentioned it yet or he may feel it is not necessary for you. I'd be inclined to do it anyway, as long as your doctor was in agreement, as I think it kick starts your weight loss and it is easier to stay motivated when you have the goal of surgery in mind. It's not easy to do (Optisludge is horrible!) but well worth the effort and when you can tell yourself that you only have to stick to it for a few weeks, it becomes bearable.

..

all the best for your surgery on tuesday Debi. there are quite a few of us perthies around so feel free to ask any questions you hae.

As for the music I listen to when I am exercising, I actually choose all of my favourite songs because as soon as I hear them I start smiling and feel as if I put more energy into my exercise. I have some really daggy songs on my MP3 including the soundtrack to Priscilla on it (how can you stay still when listening to Abba and the village people??)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
