No Shrimp??

Recommended Posts

Whew! This thread title scared me. No shrimp for life might have been a deal-breaker (I haven't been banded yet.)

I pretty much avoid shrimp. For some reason, it just does not go down well. However, we made Crockpot Gumbo for New Years and I added raw shrimp the last 45 minutes of cooking. That was the best tasting shrimp I've had since being banded. It was so tender that had it been on a bone it would have fallen off.:biggrin2:

My surgeon told me that any shellfish was actually the ideal source of protien, so he said to eat all the shellfish I want if I'm not allergic to it. Beleive me, he got NO arguement from me. So I eat lobster, shrimp, scallops, oysters, etc. I love fish too, and live on the coast, so I'm a happy camper. I don't have any problem with any of them. The only protien I seem to have alittle problem with is pork chops. they are kind of dry.

what a relief! So far...many more people can still enjoy shrimp than those who can't! I would hate to have to give up shrimp.

NOTE: I live on the coast so I eat it all the time..... One thing that people do that makes it difficult to eat is OVERCOOK it. Overcooked shrimp gets rubbery and tough. Freezing it also makes it a little tough. Try to get FRESH shrimp, and only cook it for 3 minutes or so. (depending on the size). I eat is all the time and have no problems. I eat more seafood than anything else.

YES, Eat Shrimp. I am about 6 months out from surgery and the food consistency I can eat will vary due to a # of factors(i,e, Recent fill).IMO the consistency of the shrimp is probably the best indicator of tolerance. I have and have not tolerated shrimp :)(And I love it)depending on the consistency . For me, right now, a more thoroughly cooked/ diced shrimp is safer to eat.

Try it slowly your first time out to see how you do. I thought I was doing find the first time, but an hour later it kicked in. Sometimes the "stuck" feeling can be delayed. It can be tricky to chew it well, so tiny bites are best.

I LOVE COCONUT SHRIMP!!!! ha ha ha ha

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
