Hello! I am scheduled for a RNY on April 16, 2024, and would love to be part of this support gang. I'm 52 and in moderate health. I'm a bit worried I'll be a "slow loser" after the procedure. Hell, I am just worried in general. I have fibromyalgia, which can intensify pain responses, and I can be a wimp. It's been good getting on here and reading all of the successes! I wish us all a smooth surgery and recovery

Hello friends,

Update: Surgery went very well. Doctor was very pleased with it and post-op, Tomorrow is one week and I am feeling pretty good so far. Following the Protein and Water intake recommendations. (Using a medicine cup to remember to sip and not gulp -- that's helping a lot to establish this new habit.) So far this recovery has been easier than my hernia surgery and my VGS some years ago!

I hope everyone is having a good experience as we embark our on this new path together!

Best wishes,

Elizabeth

Hi Lorna,

It's great to hear from you! I was pretty sore the first two days and stayed 2 nights in the hospital. It gets better! Also, take pain meds offered. There are no bonus points for suffering needlessly! I hope you're feeling better soon!

*gentle hugs*

Elizabeth

Hi Lorna,

Yes I had the RNY bypass. So today it's been a week. I am already feeling pretty well. Yes, I'm still swollen a bit and tire easily, but relatively pain free. So, a bit better, day by day.

But if you are not feeling well be sure to advocate for yourself! The first day in the hospital I had to be pretty assertive with a nurse who wanted to withhold pain meds. I stood my ground, had the meds, and so rested more comfortably so I could heal. That being said since I left the hospital I took a couple of over the counter pills a night ago for minor discomfort. Otherwise I have not had a pain med since the weekend.

Get your rest! Get your protein! Get your water! Day at a time!!

@RossMom, for my days doing the liver shrinking diet, the first 2 to 2 1/2 days were pretty rough, as I was hungry and nauseated from hunger, as strange as that sounds. But since then, it's been easy-breezy. I start my 2 days of clears tomorrow....oh so close!

Hi gang! I had my RNY surgery on Tuesday, 04/16 and it went awesomely! I was super sore initially as well as swollen. Now at day 3, I have deflated greatly, and my pain is being managed pretty well. I don't think it could have been any better. One night in the hospital. I have a friend staying with me because my surgeon said now bending, lifting >10 pounds, and no driving while on narcotics. I have cats and can't feed them with those restrictions.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
