Hi all...I am just starting my journey to getting gastric bypass surgery. I met with a Registered Dietician yesterday and she discussed the importance of having several Protein Shakes every day. Here's my problem....I cannot stomach anything sugar-free. I have such a hard time with aspartame, sucralose, stevia, etc. Any unflavored Protein Powder suggestions?

Premier Protein for me.

Does Premier Protein have that "fake sugar" aftertaste?

Not to me, but everyone has different tastes before and after the surgery. I used to love their birthday cake, then before the surgery on a more strict diet, it was too sweet for me. So its very individual.

I have the best luck with the Fairlife 30g shakes and their 26g and 42g "core" shakes. They dont' have that chemical taste that most other shakes have, and taste closer to a Nesquick. They do have Monk Fruit and sucralose in them, but I've been able to tolerate them. I am sensitive to a lot of sugar alcohols (sorbitol and xylitol in particular) which trigger a bad insulin response for me, but I haven't had that experience with the Fairlife brand.

Premier Protein isn't bad, but I think Fairlife tastes a lot better. They can be hard to find, but I've had the best luck checking at Sams Club (or costco / BJ's Wholesale if they're in your area). They sell out fast, so I check in the morning and place a pick up order for after work.

GENEPRO has unflavored Protein Powder and it dissolves pretty well into things and it doesn't really have much of a taste. It is my favorite plain Protein powder. You can put it in flavored water or tea or milk or whatever... Just be sure to count the protein count on the nutrition label, don't believe the "nano absorption" bull crap they advertise. LOL

check with the dietitian. You're not the only person who has trouble with artificial sweeteners - they may have some suggestions.

Fully skimmed milk with added dried milk powder or Protein yogurt is a great alternative and the protein count is great. Much cheaper too. My surgeon was very against Protein Shakes. I added banana and / or sugar free nut butter to mine.

I am enjoying the chicken Soup flavored shake from Bariatric Fusion, which is funny because when I tried it pre-op, I thought it was terrible and nearly threw it out. Now, it's great. Celebrate and Unjury also make Protein Shake Soups. I was also able to mix the unflavored Syntrax Nectar into a cup of organic Tomato Soup and it blended really well.

Try Isopure unflavored no carb. I purchased it at Harris teeter grocery store. It doesn’t add a flavor. 25g Protein a scoop.

Is there anyone else who used this method instead of Protein Shakes? I’m really interested in it. If so, what amounts do you use?

Protein yogurt is awesome. I make it all the time :) You can make it in a instantpot and using probiotic pills and regular milk. You can then strain it (using a cheesecloth if you want to do this more thoroughly)-straining it drains off carbohydrate and concentrates the protein.

Health Consciousness: The increasing awareness among individuals about the health issues linked to high sugar consumption, such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, is supporting the market growth. Consumers are becoming more health-conscious and seeking products that can provide sweetness without the negative health effects associated with sugar. This shift in consumer preferences is leading to a greater demand for low-calorie and natural sweeteners like stevia, monk fruit, and erythritol. Technological Advancements: Innovations in the production and formulation of alternative sweeteners are impelling the market growth. Advancements in biotechnology and food science are leading to the development of high-intensity sweeteners with improved taste profiles and functional properties. Innovations in fermentation processes enhance the production efficiency and quality of natural sweeteners like stevia and monk fruit. These technological improvements are making alternative sweeteners more appealing to both manufacturers and consumers. Enhanced stability, solubility, and sweetness intensity allow these sweeteners to be used in a wide range of products, ranging from beverages to baked goods.
