Hello everyone!

Hi, I'm new here and I'm scheduled to undergo the VSG procedure on November 6th. Currently, on week 2 of my pre-op diet and it's going very well so far. I'm beyond excited but growing more and more nervous every day. Wishing much success to you all!

I have an outfit I've never been able to wear. Purchased online in the same size I always get but...that is my inspiration. I can't wait until the first time I can finally wear it. Have it hanging in my room so I can see it all the time!

No, no short term disability application. I'm disabled and don't work outside the home so no need for that!

I don't get holiday pajamas but I did have a friend send me some boxes of beautiful clothes after her mother passed away. So once I get down to that size I'll have a full wardrobe which is really exciting!! I love that something sad will be made beautiful again...

My closet also includes clothes from about 100 lbs of gain so I'll be wearing everything in reverse as I go down. Shopping my own closet will be an adventure! Plus thrift stores, TJ Maxx, and Ross... Ahhh, I love shopping. 😂

I couldn't get short term disability approved, and my company is too small for FMLA, so I'm going back to work the week after surgery. I actually couldn't get a full week so I had to schedule the week of Thanksgiving so I'm only burning 2 days. I've seen others do it in less time, so hopefully it won't be too bad.

I'm sure you'll be fine, sleeve patients seem to bounce back pretty quickly unless they have complications. I've seen some return after a week off on this forum...

ETA: Just no lifting heavy things!! You don't want to mess up those pretty stitches the surgeon worked so hard on... LOL

Well, two more sleeps and I'll be in surgery! I spent the day getting everything taken care of in terms of having all my supplies at hand, double checking prep instructions with the doctor's office, washing sheets (supposed to sleep in a clean set the night before. LOL), and bathing with this antibacterial soap I have to use multiple times before and the morning of surgery. One more day of this pre-op diet left! It's getting so close... sleeping is gonna be hard. LOL

I have my Gastric Bypass scheduled for November 27th. I'm just hoping everything goes through with insurance. Did anyone notify their employer as soon as they received their surgery date, or did you wait until insurance approved the surgery? I don't want my office to know what surgery I'm having.

So my surgeon was out of the office after an injury so my surgery was on hold but I have finally gotten word today that I am scheduled for 11/16/23. 🙀 I am so darn excited!!!

I got my presurgery labs back and of course AM having a freak out about some of the values. I probably shouldn’t pretend to be a medical doctor and realize that part of the reason for this surgery is because of some of the values. However a few bad liver values while trying to shrink my liver … hope that is expected.

I work at a huge university so I know I’m lucky about time off and extended leave. Sorry to read about what others have to go through. Wishing you all the best. I did let my work know about the type of surgery because they needed medical paperwork and evaluation about the leave. I’ve been pretty open with coworkers about it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
