BoilerBob got a reaction from Renee5612 in November 2023 buddiesMy Costco keeps running out of Fairlife. I’ve been ordering from them online but it is a little bit more to have it shipped. I’ll have to try the cafe latte. I’ve been off Ozempic for a few weeks. Good news is that I haven’t thrown up for over a week a the bad news is that some of my hunger is coming back here at the end. I’m trying to drink water and remind myself I’m already down 30 pounds from this month of preop (my wife and others have made comments about looking skinnier).
I’m still trying to mentally prepare for Monday. I actually read a few of the papers my surgeon wrote about bariatric surgeries and his view on the process. It was interesting. Tomorrow is my last day of work and I just want to get to it. -
BoilerBob got a reaction from Renee5612 in November 2023 buddiesStarting week three of my preop diet and one week out from surgery. Diet definitely did get easier once in it and very closely staying on it. Traveling the last few days which has been a little challenging but not too bad.
I’ve definitely got some nerves. I wake up about 5 AM some mornings and the brain just takes over a little.
Hope things keep progressing for everyone!

BoilerBob got a reaction from Renee5612 in November 2023 buddiesGlad you both are home! -
BoilerBob got a reaction from Renee5612 in November 2023 buddiesI’m almost done with week three of preop diet and it has gotten better. I got stuck at the hospital yesterday with my son having a procedure and made it 6 hours without thinking too much about food. Halloween was a bit rough with all of the candy around. However I’ve been sticking to it knowing that changes are necessary. Down about 20 pounds so that helps too. Constipation is still an issue and I’m also getting a sweet taste in my mouth from what I’m assuming is all of the protein shakes. I can definitely see why on the long haul people look for unsweetened protein powders. -
BoilerBob got a reaction from Renee5612 in November 2023 buddiesBest of luck Nov 1 folks! -
BoilerBob got a reaction from Renee5612 in November 2023 buddiesI got my presurgery labs back and of course AM having a freak out about some of the values. I probably shouldn’t pretend to be a medical doctor and realize that part of the reason for this surgery is because of some of the values. However a few bad liver values while trying to shrink my liver … hope that is expected.
I work at a huge university so I know I’m lucky about time off and extended leave. Sorry to read about what others have to go through. Wishing you all the best. I did let my work know about the type of surgery because they needed medical paperwork and evaluation about the leave. I’ve been pretty open with coworkers about it. -
BoilerBob got a reaction from Renee5612 in November 2023 buddiesMy third day I was flying back from a conference and the airline food smelled good. Yikes! ? -
BoilerBob got a reaction from Renee5612 in November 2023 buddiesWell I’m 1.5 weeks into my 4 week preop diet and things have smoothed out a bit thank goodness. I’ve got a preop appointment tomorrow for testing and other fun things. My work has also cleared me to be out essentially through the rest of the year.
Positive thoughts for you all with your Nov. 1 dates! -
BoilerBob got a reaction from Renee5612 in November 2023 buddiesThe last few days have been vomiting free so yay. The constipation however is real. I messaged my nutritionist and she just said to drink more water. -
BoilerBob got a reaction from Renee5612 in November 2023 buddiesHi all. Surgery dates are backed up so I was expecting next year at some point and got offered 11/13 for a sleeve a few weeks ago. I had to do 6-months of meetings with PAs and nutritionists for my insurance so it has been some time in coming. I started a month-long pre-op diet on Monday and have been OK but a little shaky. I'm on Ozempic which has occasionally made me vomit in the morning when moving to a new dose but now I've done it every morning since starting this diet. Hoping that gets under control soon.

BoilerBob got a reaction from Arabesque in Liver Shrinkage Diet strugglesI had a very regimented 4-week liver shrinkage diet. The base was the shake but I would also get to have specific items like a low fat string cheese, no sugar yogurt, ands a few snacks of sugar free pudding or jello. The only thing was that I could add whatever I wanted if it was fat free broth, vinegar, or raw veggie after I had gotten in all protein for the day. I definitely hit the broth and vinegar hard when I just needed something that wasn’t sweet. -

BoilerBob got a reaction from SomeBigGuy in November 2023 buddiesThanks for sharing everyone. I actually just got back from a cruise. I definitely adjusted my diet and didn’t go crazy but I also enjoyed the food I did eat. I actually intentionally exercised several mornings and ended up losing a few pounds over the week. I’m down about 14 inches in pants size and about 50 pounds from surgery. -
BoilerBob got a reaction from SomeBigGuy in November 2023 buddiesHi all. Glad to hear so many doing well even with little bumps along the way. I overindulged a little in sweets around Christmas but have otherwise been doing good in keeping to the plan. I’ve been tracking weight each week and have had a few stalls but things are in a good direction. I’m down about 70 pounds from the start of the pre-op diet and 40 from surgery. I’m about 100 pounds down from my heaviest ever weight before diabetes meds, etc. It’s been about 8-10 inches in waist size on my pants.
I’ve been trying to exercise more but we’ve had so many sicknesses in my house and I can’t really exercise much while coughing. My biggest goal is to get more consistent with my weekly exercise. I got a Bowflex to try to get more toning in at home. -
BoilerBob got a reaction from SarahByNumbers in November 2023 buddiesWelcome to December everyone. Things physically have been going great in terms of little to no pain and virtually no nausea. I have been having back pain I can’t really explain. Mentally it’s been more of a challenge. My wife and my PCP both asked me the other day what was wrong because I wasn’t acting like myself. People assume I don’t want to do social stuff that involves food and say they feel bad for eating around me. I was getting on myself for eating too much real food now that some options are available to me. Just feel a bit of a mess right now. -
BoilerBob got a reaction from SomeBigGuy in November 2023 buddiesHope everyone is still doing well. My recovery is still at a good pace and I got to add the joy of a root canal to that yesterday. Woo. Trying to start an exercise routine and have been infatuated with making egg drop soup. -
BoilerBob got a reaction from SomeBigGuy in November 2023 buddiesThanks everyone for the suggestions and support. -

BoilerBob got a reaction from Meisha in November 2023 buddiesHope everyone is continuing to do well. I over indulged for Thanksgiving and didn’t feel great after (some very wet mashed potato and a few spoonfuls of pumpkin pie filling). Otherwise have not really had much pain or nausea. Tomorrow is my two week appointment and I expect to be given the green light to move to purées and soft foods. I’m down about 15 pounds from my surgery and 45 from the start of my preop diet. -
