Greetings - I received approval from my insurance today and the Bariatric team informed me that I will be having a robotic surgery… my surgeon will be in the room but my sleeve surgery will be performed by a robot… has anyone heard of this?????

Yeah, I think it's just the robotic ones that are in a mostly-straight line. I'm pretty sure that if you have the surgery done laparoscopically, the scars are kind of scattered around your abdomen. We're in, like, a special club. LOL!

Nope not just robotic surgery. Mine are in a straight line too but in line with my belly button so much lower. Think it’s more likely to do with the amount of weight you carry in your abdominal area and where they have to situate the incisions to best access your tummy, etc.

Nice! Everyone else that I've seen has been all over the place.

My only big disappointment about the surgery is that I don't recall seeing the robot. I really wanted to see one in person (and remember it). ?

I actually looked for it when they wheeled me into the OR since I watched a couple YouTube videos and knew what it looked like. I saw the seat and controls way over in a corner out of the way of everything. WAAAAY away from where I assumed all the action was going to take place. Now every time I think about my surgery I just envision my big belly sticking up in the middle of the room and my Doctor sitting over there in the corner with VR goggles controlling robot arms.... ?

Best ever way to get the surgery. It’s gentler. There is less torque on your body and the incisions are so much smaller. A doctor will perform the surgery. It was virtually painless for me when I had my RNYGB.

I used to work in surgery, the robot is controlled by the surgeon. He sits at a monitor looking at the site and he uses these hand controls that the robot precisely mimics. It is pretty wild, like Oculus AI. No shaky hands, but the robot can’t do anything on it’s own, so the surgeon is still performing the surgery.

And same as Carol, only gas pain immediately after and I didn't need any of the pain meds. I walked so many laps all night long. Every time I woke up, I walked..... Totally helped with the gas pain. Now 8 days later feeling pretty good, just hungry all the time, which I thought I wouldn't be.....

I had mine done on 3/29/23 and I thought hunger would be gone for awhile also.....no such luck. Always hungry lol.

When they brought me into the operating room they introduced me to the robot! ?

I had robotic sleeve surgery. I’m 5 weeks post op. It went so smoothly. I only got 3 incisions. And they are fully healed. I had minimal pain. Went home same day and back to work 3 days later. Honestly didn’t feel like I had surgery at all.

I had a robotic sleeve done. My doctor also fixed my hiatel hernia and told me the robot has better dexterity for sewing my esophagus in place.

Same here. I woke up in so much pain though. I had hoped I’d bounce back quickly like everyone else.
