PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN

Recommended Posts

Our surgeons office requires for everyone, regardless of sleeve or bypass, that you only consume half of a Protein Bar per meal, and a total of One Bar max per day.

I haven't seen anyone else have that requirement.. is my office the lone wolf on this?

Weird. I have never heard this one.

Most of them prefer you get your Protein and nutrition from whole foods. Protein Bars are processed "fake" food.

They allow you to have protein bars, but they don't "require" it. I eat them occasionally.

Wait, or am I reading this wrong? Are you saying you HAVE to eat a protein bar or that IF you do, it is only a half at a time?

yeah so we don't have to have protien bars, but if we do we can only have half at a time, and a max of one total bar per day.

Everyone I see that eats a bar, eats a whole bar as a meal, which we can't do. which is mind blowing to me

My pre-surgical diet consisted entirely of packaged items like bars, shakes, Soup mixes, etc. and we were told to only eat One Bar a day because in comparison with the other items they had more carbs and calories. I wasn't told I had to break them in half though. Just only one a day,

Oh ok. yea I eat a whole bar.

Did you ask why? I would be curious to know why.

My plan had no restrictions on them but did suggest bars with at least a 10:1 ratio of calories to Protein. So, if the bar has 150kcal, it should have AT LEAST 15g of protein. That way you get the most bang for your buck. They HIGHLY encouraged prioritizing whole foods, and minimizing supplements/packaged foods, but they understand that sometimes they just WORK.

haha, don't let it bother you. Does your team require super low carb? That may be why? They usually have around 20 carbs per bar?

Just throwing it out there, my team does not require low carb. We are allowed to eat anything (in moderation) and just being sure to eat Protein first.

they also do all things in moderation except caffiene and carbonation. but they seem to harp so hard on dumping (which i think is ridiculous considering it only happens to like 1 in 25 people) so i was wondering if it could be to prevent dumping from carbs

Maybe but 20 carbs isn't really a lot unless you are extreme low carb/keto like.

PS: I have never dumped and I have definitely pushed it. (Not perfect) haha

It wasn't specifically that brand but it was a similar sort of deal. I think they do that because it's completely idiot-proof.

I know I started out with just half of a Protein bar when I had them just to make sure I was tolerating them well. Then quickly moved on to a full bar! Honestly I don’t think I’d be able to manage without them, I eat one every single day for a morning snack. Some of them do have high amounts of sugar so I’m careful to pick ones that don’t. They definitely are more calories than if you had just plain chicken breast or cottage cheese. It does not seem sustainable for that to be an ongoing rule!

right. im more likely to dump from fat than sugar or carbs. and my frustration today was over a built bar.. which is under 20 carbs, low fat, low sugar, 17 of protien..

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
