Stopping nicotine and weigh gain

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone else gained weight when they stopped cigarettes/vapes? I have gained like 33 lbs since first visit but it was a real struggle with stopping nicotine. Nervous as to how my surgeon is going to react, I know the office said its normal to gain but 33 lbs is a lot.

it's been over 20 years since I quit, but yes - I think I gained around 30 lbs.

P.S. it may not be "normal" for people to gain 30+ lbs after quitting smoking, but we're not really normal. I think most of us are more prone than most people to gain weight. If I know that some drug is likely to make me gain weight, and the average is 5 lbs, I can pretty much guarantee that I'll gain at least 10.

I also gained right about the same amount and when I asked my dietitian about it she recommended snacking on tomatos as they have some nicotine in them and also pickles. It did really help for me and now I am 4 months without vaping

I like to say I "paused" smoking for 4 years and then returned to smoking for another 15 years. I quit smoking 3 years ago. At the end I was a 2 pack/day smoker and I smoked for close to 35 years.

Both times I quit smoking I gained 70 pounds within 3 months.

20 years ago I was able to get most of that weight back off....but not anymore. This is the main reason I am in need of WLS.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
