I had horrible gas right after too, i made myself walk, walk, walk. They had us up and walking at the hospital a few hours after surgery and i was miserable with it but kept at it and now the gas gone for the most part. If i sit too long i start to feel the build up and get up and walk. I was scared it would never get better but is has by a long shot. Hang in there it will get less and go away.

It often takes a good week for the gas to escape. But burping & farting won’t help because the gas is actually in your abdominal cavity not in your digestive system. The pain occurs because it rises & settles under your lungs causing nerve pressure (the shoulder pain). It escapes by attaching itself to Water molecules in your lungs & you breathe it out.

So gentle activity like short walks (around your home, garden, street) as you’re able, marching on the spot, carefully lifting your arms up & down ( don’t pull on your tummy) & slow, deep breathing help the gas escape. A heat pad can also help ease the discomfort too.

The pain on sipping is swelling from the surgery from where they inserted the breathing tube. Try warm drinks - warm water, green or herbal tea, even add room temp or warm water to your shakes. They are often more soothing than cool or cold liquids. It will get easier every day & will be gone in a couple more days.

Thank you so much. Im just in so much pain. The incision where they took my stomach out and mostly the gas. I can get up and walk fine but after like 3 minutes the excruciating pain comes back and I need to sit down and when I do the pain triples.

When people ask me what was the worst part immediately post op, I always say the gas pain. It makes you feel like your body is wrong and worry about the feeling being permanent. It goes away, I promise. I'm not saying this is a good thing, but I obsessively paced around my room holding a pillow for hours watching Lord of the Rings and the pain was gone in about 3 days. Probably not the solution but maybe walk a small area, with small steps, instead of all the way around the house. I think I also slept with a heating pad on either my back or stomach, which probably helped quite a bit.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
