I hate protein drinks! Any protein pills?

Recommended Posts

I have not heard of Protein pills, but that is not to say they don’t exist.

two things you may want to try:

fair life milk. Has 23 grams of protein per 14 oz. tastes and feels exactly like normal white milk. (And I am picky.)

protein 20 Water. tastes decent to me. About 15 grams of protein per bottle.

good luck!

I will try this! I found a Greek yogurt with a good amount of protein too

I hate Protein Shakes, too! After surgery, they tasted too sweet and made me vomit.

I tried to get my Protein from savory foods at first. Bone Broth with canned chicken, chewed very well, worked. However, initially I was not able to eat enough of this.

What helped me was finding an unflavored Protein Powder, and mixing it into Soup, cream of wheat, etc. Try Syntrax unflavored Protein powder.

I tried the protein in my Soup but maybe I did it wrong. It came out like mashed potatoes lol😅

Oh no! Was the Soup very hot? Protein Powder can clump in heat. Maybe try letting the soup cool a bit? My oatmeal cools for 15 minutes before I add protein powder.

Protein powder is also excellent in pancake batter and cookie batter.

Has anyone figured out how to utilize GENEPRO Protein powder and not have your foods taste like a chemical lab experiment?! 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

If you’re using unflavored Protein powder to add to Soup then what you’ll want to do is mix it with the milk first before heating. It helps to disperse it instead of trying to add it after.

Look into the protein broths that bariatricpal sells. I drank the beef and chicken ones daily for about 3 months. They also have a Tomato Soup. Steer clear of the mushroom and broccoli and onion ones until you are eating things with chunks though.

I use the Premier Protein peach drinks and now I like the Fairlife Protein Shakes. They taste like milk. Flavored milk actually, but not as sweet as commerical flavored milks.

The thing about Fairlife is, it's ultra filtered, so it filters out the excess sugars and lactose in milk. So there's no weird whey powders or that sort of egg Protein in it. I love them all.

The fairlife Protein Shakes taste like melted ice cream to me... def. my favorites. I also really enjoy the clear protein20 drinks (there are 2 options with 20g of Protein and no caffeine).

Okay. I have found the holy grail of Protein. Gladiator vanilla Protein Powder from smoothie King. It has 45 grams of protein per serving and it is unnoticeable in smoothies to me, and I’m super picky. I use 1/2 cup fairlife milk, fresh strawberries and banana, 10ish ice cubes, blend it, add the powder, blend a little more, and it’s perfect. This is a lifesaver to me.

It’s $45 per big canister at Smoothie King stores.

Totally seriously, I would have no idea I was drinking a Protein Shake if you didn’t tell me. It’s that good.

Just keep in mind that your body can only absorb so much protein at a time when taking in those larger doses.

Hey all, eeppp first post. I am still waiting approval on my surgery, but really loving the info you guys are sharing on here.

I have been on the Naked Bone Broth train for a while now and I love it. Mixed with a little veggie better than bouillon (cause this gal loves savory stuff) and its just soooo good. 20 grams of Protein per serving as well.. : )

All the best!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
