SO FLIPPING COLD!

I know it's really common to be cold after bariatric surgery. I've been cold all the time MY WHOLE LIFE. Now that I'm down over 100lbs it's becoming impossible. Today, I'm wearing a silk long sleeve undershirt, a long sleeve knit shirt, and a fleece, plus dress pants, thick socks, and short boots. I AM SO COLD! It's especially terrible when I have to sit still during work.

Has anyone found a good solution?

My husband is cold all the time too and he always wears two pairs of socks, even in summer. He says if his feet are warm he doesn’t feel quite as cold. I have the opposite problem. I am always hot. I

  • Not really much to do to solve the issue in the short term, other than what you are already doing! You can move a little more to get blood flowing, which helps with the cold. I too wore ridiculo

Ooh. Just a thought. You know what always makes me feel super hot is those compression undershirts. Maybe those would help you feel warmer.

I have always been sensitive to cold temperatures, but post-surgery it has only gotten worse so I understand! I try to bring a thick jacket to wear in the office (we are not allowed to have heaters unfortunately as they are considered a "fire hazard"....). Sometimes I have to get up and get moving/walking to warm myself up as well. It can also be a sign of iron deficiency so be careful!

I’ve found that wearing the right type of material helps immensely.. merino wool keeps you very warm. I just can’t stand wool touching my skin so I wear a cotton layer beneath (socks, undershirt, etc). Flannel is fantastic too, as is alpaca/cashmere.
What I usually do is layer a cotton undershirt under a merino roll neck sweater (or a flannel shirt under a crew neck sweater) which I may top with a wool blazer. On the bottom I’ll wear either wool pants or thick jeans, sometimes with warm leggings or thick knit tights underneath. Next to that I always put thermal liners in my shoes to keep out the worst cold, and try to wear thick soles in winter.
Another tip is to make sure your clothes aren’t too tight. Layering is most effective when there is some air between them!
Investing in some good pieces has really helped me so far. I love Arket, Cos and Massimo Dutti because they are excellent value for money. Not sure if they’re in the US though!

I’m always cold as well, living in northern Canada has forced me to buy heated everything from blankets to clothes. What a difference from last winter when I thought everywhere was way too hot.
