2.5 wks post op. SLEEPY right after eating

Hey y'all,

I am 2.5 weeks post op (band to sleeve). No real complications other than this: about 5 to 10 minutes after I finish eating; I get extremely tired and sleepy. :69_zzz:That "spell" last about 10 minutes or so and then it's gone and I am just fine. Anyone else? Thank in advance!

I have a friend who had sleeve done a few years ago and she said this happened to her a lot at the beginning. I don't think it happens to her anymore.

Good luck!

Not sure if this is the same as what u are experiencing, but sometimes too get sleepy after eating, but I’ve learned (for ME), that the tiredness/lethargy was a symptom of dumping from excess sugar. Sometimes its mild, and i just need to lie down for 15-20 mins, other times its much worse, where I actually pass out, coupled with other unpleasant symptoms.

It doesn’t happen as often as it did in the early months, as i am better at managing my sugar intake, but sometimes it does still when im not paying attention.

fyi, i’m 3.5 yrs post op.

I'm still like this almost 5 months after my sleeve and it's protein that does it. To the degree that I can only eat lightly during my working day - soup, fruit and yoghurt, etc. I have to eat the majority of my protein after I finish work, and just accept that I am super-sleepy afterwards. So I have a fully protein dinner, get my veg/fruit earlier in the day, and a big protein snack at bedtime. I have always had to eat at bedtime anyway - can't sleep if I'm hungry!

I'm 3 months post op and that happened to me for a while month 2. It still happens some days but not nearly as often. I believe it's just the new digestive system and being so new post op you're in an extreme calorie deficit and your body still might be playing catch up so you get fatigued easily. Take your vitamins. Keep your protein and water intake in the green and eventually the sleepiness goes away.
