Oh yes, the bruising is wicked! At least for me lol. I went to my appointment Monday and she said considering how I bruised from simple lab work, she wasn't surprised these were bruising me like they are (I guess I just bruise easy). I asked if there was an alternative but she told me flat out for what I need there is no oral substitute, it has to be injections. I just told her I would continue and do my best with them. I'm terrified of a clot.

I had to do heparin injections during 2 pregnancies. Icing the injection site before and after the injection helped a lot with bruising and discomfort. Hope this helps.

I had gastric bypass 3/28/22 and received two heparin injections in the hospital. I was not sent home with any blood thinners tho.

Clotting is a concern after most surgeries. I only had injections for the first 24 hours after my sleeve & again after my gall bladder removal & nothing else. How long you need injections or anti clotting meds after your surgery may depend on your surgeon’s preferences, your own general health & medical history, etc.

Hi! My surgery was on 4/4/2022 so I'm 6 days post op today. I was sent home with 28 days worth of Lovenox injections to prevent blood clotting. I understand how important they are and 100% plan on doing what I need to do with them, however, I am bruising up after some of the injections. I already have the bruises from the incisions which look ROUGH, but I feel like these bruises might be contributing to the chaos that is my torso right now. I also saw in the side effects and papers about the injections to contact the doctor if you start to bruise, but it's listed as a "minor side effect" and I don't feel sick or anything from it so I've kept on with them and will say something to her at my 1 week post op visit tomorrow.

Did anyone have these injections as well and if so, did you have any issues using them or reactions to them?

I'm a Lovenox lifer due to a clotting disorder. Here are some tips I gave another poster:

Yeah, that's super common. I have a clotting disorder that wasn't controlled by either Coumadin or Xarelto, so I am a lifer on injectable Lovenox. Raised purple bruises or blotches are normal. Definitely avoid those areas when you inject again, you don't want to inject into an already bruised area. It helps me to inject at a slant, rather than perpendicular to my skin, I seem to bruise less that way. I try to avoid any visible veins. Make sure you pinch enough of the injection site (don't inject into flat skin). Other than that, it's hard to prevent the bruising. But they'll fade (sometimes VERY slowly).

I've done the injections when I've been pregnant. I found it an absolute necessity to ice the area first. That seemed to help with the bruising.

I also went home with injections I was a little confused as to why. I honestly didn’t finish them I had about a weeks worth and I’m on my third week .. I feel hungrier more than ever but I’m doing purée I don’t feel like I get full
But what are those injections for didn't you ask your doctor?
And after the surgery the hunger hormones are meant to be decreased if anything! maybe you should consult your doctor about how you feel and ask them what the injections are for just for your peace of mind.
I'm due for a gastric bypass and a hiatal hernia repair on the 16th of May and now I'm curious about the injections

Good lord I hate these shots! My mom is staying with me and helping for now, but I don’t know how I’m ever going to get myself to do them on my own. So miserable.

I feel slighted! I didn't have the fancy blowup compression socks (of any kind) at my hospital. I just got the cheesy socks with treads on the top and bottom...in a sickly yellow color. 😤

Glad to know. I don't want to be disappointed. I also live in PA😊

Ugh.....my hospital bed was a freaking air mattress. Each time I changed position, the stupid thing would inflate or deflate. Annoying!

Where did you have your surgery?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
