Over night stay at hospital. Yay or nay

Why the rush to get home? This is major surgery, and having nurses and pain meds and a reclining bed are all huge reasons to stay. Not to mention doctors usually want to test your pain levels, swallowing, walking, etc... Staying 1 night is a way better idea than going home the same day. My surgeon won't even allow it. You have to stay 1 night.

Why not leave if I'm released by my Dr? If I'm doing good then why not leave? If My Dr says I'm good to go, why not leave?

When meeting with my surgeon he was the one to say I could leave same day. I did Not ask to go home say day. He also said if I feel like I need to say he will admit me.

i asked this question to give me some sort of idea of what to expect and if anyone had actually gone home and if they did ok.

im not in a "rush" to get home. I'm going by my Doctors recommendation only at this point.

Usually can stay 23 hrs for observation and not pay for hospital bill. I’m 69 Fri and live alone, so to each what they are comfortable with and Drs advise. We are all different.

I'm self pay. But it's not about the money. I think it's 600 more if I stay the night. I'm 49 with bmi of 35. No health problems besides blood sugar issues. That's all getting better being on a liquid diet. I think the reason the Doctor has told me I can go home the day of, is because if no health issues. My coworker was told to stay overnight. Be had other health issues but she told me she wasn't in pain and felt like she could have gone home. With with her health issues he wouldn't allow it. (We are using the same Dr). At this point it's unknown how I'll feel. But I will know by this time tomorrow. My surgery is scheduled for 8am. 😊

Yes, same sleeve mandatory one nite stay. I’m scared of surgery. Includes umbilical hernia have low pain tolerance and a big coward 🤣 I don’t mind staying one nite self pay included -I saw the surgery in video now afraid a staple will come loose etc. Has anyone used cbd for preop anxiety?ty

Although I was not ready to go home, I almost feel that the pain management would have been better at home. The nursing staff was very short staffed, and sometimes it was two hours before they would provide me pain medicine after I called them sobbing.

Whereas when I came home, I was the one with the medicine and could control when I received it (on time!).

Did you stay over night at the hospital or did you go home the same day? I'm thinking if going home same day. But not sure if that's the best thing to do. I have a high tolerance for pain. But I know WLS pain might be different.

I dont think that I would feel comfortable going home the same day especially having the RNY. My surgeon said that I would be in for a three or four night stay. I mentioned that to the dietician and she said it may be even longer as they need to get my blood sugar level down. I am no fan of hospitals. If I need to stay I will.

I would ask the anesthesiologist about that. They may just need to know beforehand but it could also be a no no.

Well. I had my surgery this morning. Yes gas pains are awful. I feel pretty good except for the pain in my shoulders and neck. They fixed a hernia. So he admitted me. I will be staying over night. I'm fine with that. We packed overnight bags just in case. So we are good.

They have the good drugs there so if you had hernia repair it’s probably better to be there anyways. I hear that is quite a bit more painful. Glad to hear you are on the other side and doing okay.

Thank you so much. I haven't had a lot of pain medicine so far.

My Dr requires 24 hour observation. The morning after surgery we are required to have a liquid swallow test to make sure there are no leaks.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
