VSG to RNY - Not excited

Reversal is important to me but for a different reason. If I get very sick with my autoimmune disease again (which is what caused me to need wls ~ 7 years of daily steroid use) I may need it reversed because I will have to go back on daily steroids again. We don't think that's going to happen, but it's there if it's necessary.

Of course reversal of RNY is doable. All the parts are still there.

Back then it was taking it down was more of an issue than today, as I knew a person that died during one. Of course being more involved back when, I knew people that died in every surgery since I was running a non-profit to help out.

I think that humor is an amazing coping mechanism. Unfortunately, many venues do not seem to agree. I DO think that laughter IS the best medicine in may many instances. I teach in a middle school...if I didn't find humor in almost everything, I would be very unhappy here. It's just the nature of my job.

I had RNY revision from VSG for severe reflux in October 2020. Since my revision surgery, I've lost 65 pounds. I had only lost, and sustained a 30 pound loss after VSG. And I haven't had an episode of reflux since surgery. Best decision I ever made!

I had VSG in November 2016. I never really lost the weight I had hoped (lost about 30 pounds). I'm sure a lot of it has to do with my choices because I really want to get the extra weight off. I recently met with my surgeon to discuss my options and after having a Bravo Endoscopy, we learned I have extremely bad acid reflux (I didn't need a procedure to learn that but whatever). He also stated that I have a hiatal hernia.
Today he advised me to undergo gastric bypass which will completely eradicate the reflux. I was hoping to go in for a duodenal switch but he stated that wasn't a good option for me.
Does anyone have any experience on vsg to rny with great weight loss results?

Lost all my excess weight after revision from vsg to rny, and it was faster for me. I had to do it for gerd.

Complications for MGB and RYN may be similar since they both deal with bypass aspect. MGB may be more cuz of higher amount of bypass?

As for reversible aspect, surgeons don't advise reversing any such procedure unless of course needed. Even with RYN, reversing is possible since your bypassed stomach is still within you.

As for higher weight loss, I think it comes from the fact that more intestine is bypassed than RYN. But eventually they both do provide substantial weight loss overall.

I think I mentioned this on another thread, but surgery has helped a ton with my binge eating habits. Yes, it's a lot to do with your mental health and your head needs to be fixed but surgery is a huge add-on fighting this battle.

For personal reasons, I never opted for any therapy and as I mentioned previously I still had binging episodes right before starting my pre-Op.

So for me to say out here that I am in CONTROL is very significant. I have yet to have food or restaurants call me out for some midnight tours.

I of course don't want to undermine the significance of therapy, but at the same time I also don't want to say that surgery won't help. At least it did in my case. It can either be due to the hormonal changes or your mindset rewiring around a new lifestyle, but it surely helps.
