Abdominoplasty muscle tightening?

Recommended Posts

Guest

Hi there - what is the situation with the muscle tightening aspect of abdominoplasty and why do WLS patients typically require this (I understand why they'd have loose skin of course)? When I tense my abdominal muscles they seem to be slightly convex or pushed outwards - why is this and is this something abdominoplasty would solve? Thanks!

the extra fat pushes the muscles out after awhile. You don't HAVE to get this done, but if you want a fairly (or very) flat stomach, then muscle tightening and Lipo will usually get the job done...

My surgeon explained to me the that the muscle tightening portion of a Tummy Tuck is to basically sew the gap between the abdominal muscles together. See those six packs on super fit people? Im referring to that vertical line between the “packs”.

pregnancy and midsection weight gain push this gap apart resulting in outward bulging.

Sewing the gap together give a tighter, flatter look.

And do you need the vertical scar for that, or just the lateral one? I wouldn't want the vertical one.

Thank you! And why was the scar planned to be high and then lowered later on?

Edit: also, your belly button looks original? Was it not moved or reconstructed?

The belly button is new. I naturally have a high belly button and with the existing tattoo (what remains is the half that was above my "old" belly button), we (me and PS) decided to be "conservative" and go with a higher placed scar with scar revision(s) planned in the future. I didn't have enough skin to remove the tattoo completely so it was more important to me that the remaining portion not be totally distorted. My bikini wearing days are long gone so hiding the scar was not as important. It will be easy to remove more of the tattoo without distorting it and lower the scar an inch at a time. The scar revision is an office procedure done under local anesthesia so not a huge deal.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
