Any lifestyle differences between Sleeve vs ByPass after the operation?

Recommended Posts

Trying to decide between ByPass and Sleeve.
I tend to overthink things.
Is the lifestyle after surgery any different between Sleeve vs ByPass?

Generally the post-op plans are similar. At least a similar as anything since each surgeon's plan varies dramatically from other surgeons. I haven't seen a surgeon have different plans for their sleeve and bypass patents, not that I've been looking particularly closely.

30-50% of Bypass patients experience some level of dumping. If you are one of the (un)lucky ones then your surgery will be less forgiving on sugar and to a lesser degree fats. I happen to be one of the lucky folks who dumps and it has kept me on the straight and narrow.

Good luck,

Tek

I am in the same boat, after doing more research it looks like my insurance will only pay for banding or gastric bypass. I thought wanted the sleeve...but I'm so tired of this weight that I'm thinking just going with what I can get paid for.

I have my consultation on 8/6 so I will be talking my surgeon but I think I am leaning toward the bypass because I have horrible reflux already.

lifestyle is the same from what I can tell. With bypass there's about a 30% chance you'll dump (which some people consider a "pro", but others consider it a "con"), and with sleeve there's about a 30% chance of developing reflux (or if you already have reflux (GERD), it could get worse). You'll have to take Vitamins for the rest of your life with either surgery, but there's more of a consequence if you slack off if you have bypass. Other than that...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
