Lifting a 25 lb kid

Recommended Posts

How long after surgery will it (practically) be before I can pick up my son? I don't mean walking around carrying him, I mean putting him in the carseat, putting him up on the changing table and back down. He's 2 1/2 and weighs 25 lbs. My husband will be off for five days after my surgery, but after that I'm on my own. I do have an older daughter (9) who will be able to help out some.

Thanks!!

I'm in the same boat as you, I have a son who is about 25 pounds. I won't have a choice but to lift him, but I look forward to hearing some answers to your post.

My doc said nothing over 15 lbs for 2 weeks. She said I could mess up the port site because the stitches havent healed yet and I could do damage there.

My daughter is 2 and half and weighs abt 35 lbs. Dr. said not lift her for any reason. I miss it.

A couple of suggestions:

* Put a cotton blanket down on the floor and change him there

* Get him to climb in and out of the car seat on his own - he's 2 & half! My granddaughter (also 2 & half) has conniptions if I try to lift her in or out of the car seat "I do it!! I do it!!"

* Have lots of cuddles on the couch, rather than picking him up

I am going to start this week changing him on the bed or floor.

:P Him being 2 1/2 is a big part of the problem. He'd climb into the carseat with no problem at 2, but now he has a little mind of his own and frequently requires some direction ... or dragging ... to get him in there. I'm going to have to come up with something creative, or resort to bribery, to get him in there, I'm afraid.

Hi,

I am done with all my pre op and waiting for a surgery date. I am very worried about caring for my kids. I have 2 year old ACTIVE twin boys and a 4 year old daughter. I may also have a hernia repaired while being banded. I am really nervous....

Thanks,

Kris:o

every doctor is different. My husbands' and mine said after one week we were allowed 100+ lbs on lifting. there for I would ask your doc as he/she is the only one that can tell you what they want you to do. good luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
