How is everyone coming along since surgery? How much weight have you lost? How are you feeling?

I’m 9 days post op and have lost 13 pounds this week. It’s been crazy. I’m doing loads better now surgery wise but my back decided to give me issues now so I’ve been down and out bc of that. I’m now on soft foods. Everything so far seems to be great. I wanted to add my sugar levels have been really high still so dr is telling me to take metformin still. Today my sugars are finally seeing low so doc said I can go off meds once there normal.

Well, the scale is still stuck. 18 days post op. Still just 9 pounds gone since surgery. I had been walking on a local track, but it got too hot here. So I got a gym membership and walked my hour on the treadmill. I have yet to ‘feel full’. I have yet to ‘feel ill’ with any different foods. I’m scared maybe the surgery didn’t work! Surely I’m not the only one who has thought this! I know it sounds crazy. Doc kept me off work for another 2 weeks to make sure I was healed well. So maybe I’m just ‘bored and stuck in my head’? I don’t want to become a ‘gym rat’, especially with me still having incision pain. I am scared of overdoing it.

Hell yes! Ive cried more this week than i have in the last year, its so strange im flying high then hitting rock bottom generally over nothing as well

Im also finding myself bored and I dont like it. did an hour on the treadmill (3x20min sessions) which might have been a bit to much but aside from making sure im taking all my Vitamins and getting all my fluids theres nothing to do! its the middle of winter here so that makes things a little bit tougher when its raining so often. need ideas to keep me busy

Isn't that the truth! It's the opposite here. 40+c 100+ every day for the next 3 months. I HAVE to get out of the house so I have been getting up between 5 & 6 am when it's not too hot to walk but then there's nothing to do the rest of the day! Mostly I'm doing stuff on the computer but this COVID has been a game changer.

Sounds like you are doing really well though! Keep up the good work!

Me too! I am still having hunger pains like I have never experienced in my life! I still feel like I can always eat more! Big mistake because then I usually end up regretting one extra bite. I'm giving myself until Monday to see if these hunger pains go away and then I might call the office just to check and see if it's normal.

I'm also going to call t to see if I can start getting some counseling because I know that alot of this is emotional.

Hang in there!

I sing in a gospel quartet and a barbershop quartet. I have the most fun in those 2 groups. I get to sing harmony, and the singers are good. I also sing in the church choir and from time to time I sing a solo in church.

I haven't had stage fright for a long time. I guess if I can't see the audience because the house is really dark and the lights are really bright, I might still have a bit of nerves, but I forget about it because it's so much fun.

Excellent! I can't sing to save my life but I have friends who can. What a gift!

How is everyone’s scars healing?
I have 4 incisions. 3 look good. One looks red and feels hard around it. No pus, but that area hurts sometimes.
im using Mederma at night and silicone tape in the day.

I also have 4. The one right below breasts is a ma zing! looks so nice where as the other three well... I was told i had dissolvable stitches yet I can SEE the 'string' coming out of at least one of the stitches, and they are suppose to be fully healed by now and I have a massive urge to pull it cos its so annoying! plus the lower three have lumped underneath the incisions, they are not straight or nice looking, one of them even looks like 'duck lips' im not happy at all. Oh well, going to start putting that stretch mark and scar gel on them soon and see if that helps them.

How is everyone going? Im onto soft foods, slowly testing the waters. In love with plain old tuna in spring Water just straight out of the can and baked Beans with feta cheese. Cant keep down eggs tho which is sad because I just bought egglette cookers especially! Hopefully later down the track as I am really craving scrambled eggs and ketchup!

I am still sticking to my plan - haven't weighed myself at all, in one week it'll be a month post op and I can! 🤞 good results 🤞 too much pressure alot of people are having on themselves, I still have the battery out of the scales. Im going to see if I need B12 shots from doc as I was told I might need a shot once a month, if thats the case I am going to throw out my scales COMPLETELY and get weighted at my GP once a month! I feel like that will take the pressure off?

I’m 8 days post op and healing well. Had liquid stitches and most of them are almost completely peeled away. Not much pain at all unless I bend too far over but now it’s much easier to do. My husband told me he can tell I have lost weight. He can see it in my face. 😊 Since surgery I am down 12lbs in 8 days. Total lost since I started my approval for VGS is 34lbs. I’m a happy camper! Just wish I can move on to soft foods already. Getting tired of Protein Shakes and broth lol

@bumblebee13 the stitches would irritate me too. Call your dr and ask if it’s supposed to dissolve soon. I hope your scars settle down and don’t keloid!
soft foods has been great! I can’t eat regular scramble eggs. But I can eat egg bites from the instant pot. I make mine with ricotta cheese, mozzarella, seasonings, spinach, and diced deli turkey. A dot of hot sauce adds the kick I crave. Have you tried the ricotta bake, deli meat roll ups with a soft cheese, or deli meat “burrito”? Yummm!

Im learning I need to eat slower or I get full too fast and blah.

I had an IV bag with Vitamins C, B12, b complex, magnesium, zinc, and glutathione. Plus two saline bags. Man I felt so much better. Way to go not weighing yourself! That takes a lot of control. I weigh twice a week to make sure I’m on track. But with getting IVs it’s not always accurate because of Water retention.

Way to go! When I could finally eat soft foods, I felt like I had more energy. However, I get depleted fast and forget to eat or drink. I’m over Protein Drinks. 😑 they were making me bloat and I get sick on them. I’ve bought some New Whey Protein powders and I’m hoping they’ll be gentler on my stomach.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
