My other reason...livestock are just incredibly hard on the environment. Getting the same protien with a better carbon footprint makes me feel good. I don't judge anyone who eats meat....crap, I do

Reading all of these posts, I may have to give it a try. I am very leery about eating plant based meats for some reason. Is it more protein than regular meat? Why do you eat it? Are you vegan, vegetar

Depends on the substitute. The gluten based ones usually have insane amounts of protein.

I'm a big fan of impossible burgers. I love the impossible whopper at burger king. I cut it in half and eat half...in two one quarter sandwich sittings.

I love mycoprotien. I eat a lot of of Quorn brand chicken nuggets and chicken cutlets. Mycoprotien is from mushrooms, not soy. It's my favorite fake chicken.

I do eat tofu a couple times a week. Love it firm, cubed, in salads and chili.

I tried eating tofu, and I don't care for it at all. Its weird.

The first couple months after surgery I ate a lot of plant based “meats.” They were much easier in my healing tummy than real meat Proteins. My favorites at the time were marinated and baked tofu, Boca burgers, and Morning Star Farms sausage links. I have never tried Impossible Burgers. The main thing for me early post-op was texture. Smooth texture foods seemed to cause me less tummy aches. I haven’t been eating this stuff for a few months now, as I got kind of burned out and the tummy got better at handling meat Protein. It is about time to bake some tofu though. ?

I never realized that they would be easier on the belly. I will give it a try.

we really like Beyond Burgers and Impossible Burgers.

for sausage patties, they're all pretty good since most of the taste of sausage comes from the spices rather than the meat. They can be a bit dry, though - but then you won't notice that if you're just crumbling them up and putting them in something like chili or spaghetti or an omelet.

I will have to try it. I wouldn't eat it plain, but putting it in something might just do it.

LOL...it is kinda weird if you're not used to it. I grew up on it. Love it. Phytoestrogen is something to be aware of, for sure, but given that countries that consume a metric F-ton of tofu and other soy have decreased incidence of reproductive cancers compared to the rest of the world...I'm not overly concerned. Also, in perimenopause, sometimes a little phytoestrogen is nice. LOL. To each their own. If tofu isn't your thing....maybe try mycoprotien? Quorn products are really good. Even my junkfood eating visitors enjoy them:)

I never heard of the brand Quorn. Is it sold at regular markets, or is it a specialty item?

If you're in the US, most of the major grocery chain stores here have it. In the frozen food next to the garden burgers. (Walmart, Meijer, etc)

Tofu is all about how you prepare it. Google some recipes and consider trying one that appeals to you (or not). I brought my baked tofu to a work potluck (theme was healthy food). I had several tofu haters gobbling it up, and every person that tried it, liked it. One of the previous haters begged me to bring it to every potluck thereafter. I do use an extra firm variety and bake it until the outside is getting crispy/chewy. I don’t have a specific recipe at this point, or I would share. I have been craving it, so I will probably make some tomorrow and it will show up in the food before and after thread next week. ?

Air fryer tofu is so good. But I understand the texture thing- it’s a very distinctive texture and there are certain foods I can’t stand because of things like that. I love paneer as well and I’ve found that most tofu haters also don’t like that.
