Having my sleeve surgery tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I’m having my sleeve surgery tomorrow at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles and I am so excited! I’m a bit nervous about the recovery process, so I was just wondering what tips or tricks you all may have for getting through the post op pain?

I’m going to stay positive and strong but sometimes pain is pain.

I’ve been on a pre-op mainly liquids diet for almost a month now and have dropped 25 lbs! So my weight going into surgery tomorrow is going to be 322 lbs. I’m a 6’1 31 year old male. I’m not sure what my goal weight should be, but ideally I’d love to get down to 225 lbs and in a dream world, be 200 lbs but I have a large frame so not sure if that’s doable!

Any advice for the recovery would mean a lot!

Thank you for your support,

P

Congratulations! I had a bypass on November 5th. I was worried about pain and what recovery would be like. I spent two nights in the hospital and had plenty of pain meds while there. I also took pain meds when I got home but not nearly as many. Get up and walk more than they tell you to. It can be exhausting at first but it really does help with gas pains you may have. Follow your surgeons advice, ask lots of questions if things are not clear. I am 10 days out and get tired but my husband and I hung new blinds a few days ago so I figure I am not doing too bad at this point. Good luck tomorrow!

Hello,

As someone who has endured multiple surgeries & realizing each person responds differently to surgery & post -op, you will do great! You will be euphorically happy. It is normal to have apprehension, the surgery will be over & you will resume the beautiful life you are entitled. I look forward to hearing all about it. All my best - Grace

Good luck!!!

I'm tomorrow as well. Sleeve in Raleigh NC. Day 14 of the preop diet, and just treated myself to two cups of chicken broth. It was really good. Lol. Dropped 18 in two weeks. I'm worried about recovery. I'm hoping it's not too bad.

You will do great. I had surgery last Wednesday and so I am fairly fresh to recovery right now. I know you may not see this today, but if you have anything that the nurses can help with (pain, nausea) then let them know and they will try to help. Walking helped with gas, but do only what you feel like your body can handle. Pain is only for a period of time and it is over quicker than you know it. I didn't drink much in the hospital but have been able to maintain the 64oz + of fluids that my doctor wants me to take in daily. Good luck on your surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
