Is this all normal? Feeling so worried.

Recommended Posts

I am a week out from my roux en y and altogether I’ve made a lot of improvement in those 7 days- my incisions look good, mobility better, everyday I get more Water and Protein in.
BUT I still have a pretty sharp pain in my left shoulder and sort of towards the left side of my stomach- this happens especially when I drink any protein. It feels like it’s moving like gas and my pulse is normal along with my temperature, but the pain in my shoulder is scaring the crap out of me. It also hurts inside me every time I take in any protein. Is this normal?

It is more then likely the gas that was blown into your abdomen during the surgery. Mine lasted 3 weeks! It just depends on how well your doctor is a getting it out before they close you back up.
Heat & walking should help.

Agreed that it's likely the gas from the surgery. Gas-X, etc, won't help b/c the gas isn't in your stomach (you probably knew that, but just in case! LOL!!) . Walking is the best thing you can do right now!! It should pass soon. Good luck!!!

Yes they told me that they pumped the gas in and that walking would help get that gas out. I am still using gas x to help with gas in the intestinal tract.
The sensation in the left shoulder is just so sharp and weird but it sounds like this gas issue effects everyone.

The gas issue doesn't effect everyone. I had very little trouble with gas. But if you are really worried call your surgeon and double check. But its probably just gas. It often lands in the shoulders.

My team specifically warned us that the gas usually moves to your shoulder and not to be surprised by weird shoulder pain. I think you are safe! :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
