Spotting, periods & cramping after VSG

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 6/18/20 and I do have the nexplanon birth control implant and my periods have been so out of control. I spotted before surgery and keep having it on and off coupled with cramps and nausea to the point I don’t even feel like eating. Has anyone else had issues with period after VSG?

some people experience "hormone dumps" after WLS that affects their moods and menstrual cycles. It can last a few weeks or sometimes months, but it does eventually normalize. That may be what's going on

I will have to look more into that! I never heard of it but that makes total sense. It has been like a complete roller coaster I’ll be extremely grateful when things even out. Thanks for that Catwoman 😊

from what I understand, it's because estrogen is stored in fat cells, and with the rapid weight loss, the estrogen is released.

I am a little over a year post op and I feel like my cycle has regulated (finally) the last two months.

I spotted and skipped periods or had two in a row. I saw my regular doc and surgeon about this and had my physical and all was good.

It takes your body a longtime to normalize. Be patient while she heals!

Wow! Well I’m glad you started to normalize. It for sure is a process and I have to keep reminding myself of that! Being patient is definitely the mantra of the year for me especially through all of this

I had the reverse. Thanks to all the oestrogen being released from my fat as I lost my weight, my menopausal symptoms disappeared - yippee! They’re back now though - sigh!

BTW my cholesterol levels also rose a lot for the same reason so don’t be surprised if that happens too.

liver enzymes increase as well (although you wouldn't know that unless you had yours tested). Rapid weight loss is supposedly tough on livers. I had mine re-tested when I was about 18 months out (and pretty much done losing weight), and they were back to normal. Evidently this is pretty common...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
