Pandemic Weight Gain:(

Recommended Posts

I have experiences slight weight gain, I had my lapband surgery back in Feb 2020 only lost 20 lbs but been stuck at the same weight, going back to old habits of emotional eating. Do you think a lapband fill is needed? I had my first one in March 2020 but I feel as I can eat and not feel as full awaringly. Any advice?

It's really hard to lose the weight when you're stuck at home and don't use the calories you normally use running around all day. I've gained a few pounds. I do Pilates and run most every day. But I agree, the struggle can be very hard. If anyone is about to tell me to work on my food addiction, save it.

Well if you're not using calories then you need to adjust your intake to suit..

But otherwise talk to your Dr if you need a fill?

Part of having surgery and a new lifestyle is figuring out how to adjust our diet as we go along; keep a log book of what you're eating and then look back on it to see what changes you need to make :)

I've had the bypass and weight loss has been great but I know one day the malabsorption will go away and I'll have to figure it out..

If anyone is able to explain “one day malabsorption will go away” would you please be so kind as to do so? I’ve heard others mention it on this board but my Dr. never has nor can I find science on it. Thanks.

I should say may. Some people do experience changes in their absorption after like a year or 2 or 5 it all varies per person.

just like some people have restriction others don't like most days I don't even want to eat yet some ppl woke up from surgery hungry...

There's so many variables with each surgery

I think the phrase "go away" is a little of a misnomer. Our bodies adjust to whatever circumstances it is presented with. In the case of bypass, the GI tract has been re-routed to intentionally result in malabsorption. After a while, the body adjusts a bit to it and will learn more efficient ways to absorb nutrients. That's not to say you don't have some malabsorption forever and it's not like it re-grows your intestinal tract or anything, it's just become a little more efficient at getting what it needs. The body is amazing at overcoming deficiencies like that. It's not quick at it, but it happens.

You've heard of the "honeymoon" period of WLS? That's kind of the theory.

I've heard that malabsorption of calories "goes away" after a couple of years after your body adjusts to the new structure and learns to compensate, but the malabsorption of Vitamins does not "go away". But I'll defer to the medical folks on this.

Your response was soo simple but effective. On Sunday I removed everything from my pantry that was not good for me, I felt bad for my husband and kids but if I want to continue to lose the weight I will need there support first. I dont want to give those bad habits to my kids either. They all have fast metabolism and are in skinny but that could change poorly health wise. So thanks for the response!

Update. So Monday 6/1/2020, I did go see my dr. and I requested 1/2 cc fill and it was more of a reality check needed I feel. She explained to me that obviously this tool is used for an advantage in eating (healthy) and if your snacking your going to not feel as full vs. eating a nutritious meal mind you I didnt start snacking until this pandemic but I was foolish enough to let this get the best of me because in reality we will face life struggles but should remain constant with our own health but anywho so my main problem wasthat and surely adjustment. And so I started by eliminating all 'junk' out of my home because I do have a family and kiddos. And started fresh with eating 3 meals a day, making sure one meal is a Protein Shake, and I am proud to say that I lost 8 lbs in a week and today is 6/5/2020. So yes I do get full, havent experienced stuck feeling just learned to chew food thouroughly and take your time! I also began family walks and utilize my boredom to get out the home and find ways to enjoy life and feel content. Hope this helps someone.

It has hit me today, as I sit in my chair at work that I don't have my belly sticking out to where it would hit the desk. Oh and I can cross my legs more comfortably. It amazes me just how much I have loss in inches vs actual pounds, I have lost 24 lbs all together. But I believe in inches all over about 3 inches. I am noticing more energy and have pep to my step. My skin is a lot clearer. My watch band is shorter by 3 notches. the little things are what I am noticing. When I bend over I don't feel out of breath or I am going to fall over ( weeble wobble).
I am having a hard time with my sweet tooth, it is very hard to not want to get some ice cream or chocolate. Candy I can do without. I have no craving really for that, just chocolate and ice cream. I have gone as far as taking Popsicle and putting them in my mixer with almond milk and making like ice cream with that/ sometimes I have added un-flavored protein powder.
I feel better everyday. The energy is great to have with having younger kids and being able to have the energy to keep up. 😃

If anyone has any advice on how to make your stomach feel better after you eat something you shouldn't have or at too fast, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! It's painful on both sides of my abdomen (like to the point I'm doubled over and using a hot water bottle in addition to medicine) and I'm really nauseous (the thought or smell of food is 🤢).
