does anyone gain weight before you lose?

Recommended Posts

hey everyone. I'm almost 5 months out of surgery and have lost 60 lbs. Ive been one of people that decides to torture myself and weighs almost every day. The fluctuations i see on the scale are crazy. This entire month I've had a stall. I realize that I lost a good amount of weight in 4 months, so I'm sure it's normal but frustrating. I've literally only lost one pound the entire month and I've not done anything wrong. I'm hoping I break that soon as most months I average around 10 lbs loss.

Anyway, what I notice weighing every day is I will lose a few lbs in several days, then it seems like a go up a lb or so, only to relose and then some after that, little at a time. Does anyone else that weighs often notice this? Maybe it would be better if I weighed once a week or less? Thanks!!

Water weight fluctuates. That is why i have posted here a million times - Do not weigh yourself every day you will end up in a Rubber room with a jacket the buckles in the back!

I weighed in twice a month 1st and 15th of every month.

fluctuations and stalls are a normal part of the journey, so if they're driving you nuts, just weigh yourself less often.

also, weight loss slows the further out you go, so you may or may not see those 10-lbs-per-month losses much anymore, since you're now five months out. I lost 10-12 lbs a month for about the first six months, then it dropped to about 5-8 lbs a months until about the year mark, then it was around 2-5 lbs a month until it finally stopped at about 20 months out. It's because the smaller you get, the fewer calories your body needs, so you're going to lose fewer lbs as you get closer to goal.

One of the problems with weighing every day is the fact that scales are notoriously inaccurate. For example, my scale only promises plus/minus 0.75 pounds. IOW, you weight may have gone up or maybe not, it may have gone down or maybe not. You can only tell over a longer period of time.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
