Serious question here. Has anybody had a gastric bypass because of gastropareses.

Recommended Posts

My wife has gastropareses and the surgeon who will be performing my RNY bypass has her medical records as of the 12/23. He thinks he might be able to get her approved for a RNY bypass. Just wondering if anyone else on here has had it performed for that reason and did it help?

The RNY is fundamentally the same thing procedure that is done for gastropareses under the heading of "partial gastrectomy" (and in some cases a total gastrectomy may be done.) Limb lengths may be a bit different if weight loss is not an issue, though there may be other trade offs in doing so (for instance, bile reflux tends to be more common with shorter limbs for less malabsorption and weight loss.)

There are some useful Facebook groups that cater to total and partial gastrectomy patients that are worth looking into, and will have more people in this situation.

Yes, I initially looked for that type of surgery. In my early 50’s, I became extremely morbidly obese as a result of prednisone & steroid epidural block injections and decided on GB instead. It has made a difference but I use Miralax every night to have movement. I really hope it helps your wife, too!

Thank you both for your responses. I'm hoping the surgeon will get her approved. He said she should only have to see the dietician and nothing else. We will see! Thanks again.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
