Need help with food stuck in pouch

Recommended Posts

I'm in puree stage and yesterday I tried some carrots and since then my throat makes sounds after i drink and i can no longer drink as much. What can i do to make myself feel better? Do i need to go to the ER? Please don't tell me that I have to go to the ER :(

If this has been happening since yesterday it may not be an emergency. Not sure. But get some chewable papaya enzymes and keep them on hand for times like this. They are great at helping to digest the food.

Good luck!

i wouldn’t normally suggest this but are you able to make yourself bring them back up? Wouldn’t be a good thing to do very often but may help you now.

if they were RAW carrots, I couldn't eat those until I was a few months out. Raw veggies can be very irritating to healing stomachs. In fact they sometimes STILL irritate my stomach, and I'm over four years out.

We are all different. I was instructed when I have a food that I added and it did that to me, I was supposed to go back 1-2 stages for a day or two until the inflammation resided. Then try to progress again with ONPLAN foods.

Carrots (raw) are NOT part of the puree stage. Well-steamed carrots? Would be ok to puree, BUT when you cook carrots to that point, they have a crap ton of available sugar in them and may spike your blood sugar and since you are a bypass pt. you might have an episode of dumping with sufficient quantity.

So a better choice would be butternut squash, canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling), or even a bit of well-cooked sweet potato. Or even better, roasted smashed cauliflower.

Glad you feel better today.

I second everything @FluffyChix said.

Know your stages and what foods are allowed in those stages. It's not meant to torture you. It's meant to allow your body to heal.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
