That's one reason they harp on about your Calcium supplements. It's very easy to become calcium deficient. Plus, if you develop GERD, the acid can bathe your back teeth and damage the enamel, too.

I also think many people still think of the experiences of bariatric patients from a long time ago when people did not know at all that they needed to take vitamins to help avoid some of those issues. I have even met a few medical professionals (!) that are still entrenched in old ideas about dental outcomes based on ancient data and poor post surgery nutition routines. Kinda sad...

Some bariatric patients will have tooth issues, some won't, and the variables in determining where one person falls are multitude. Teeth are not all created equal, bariatric patient or not. Some people will experience more issues than others simply due to what they started out with.

The best a person can do is what any non- bariatric patient would do. Control the variables one can, (vitamins, checkups etc.) and get prompt care to deal with the rest. Try not to worry. :)

Each persons teeth are different but some tips are to make sure that your Calcium is actually being utilized, chewable or liquid vitamins that are Whole Foods based are best. Also Vitamin k helps the body utilize calcium in the body better. I just bought my mom a sublingual vitamin k on Amazon, so it works best. I use toothpaste with enamel care (I like arm & hammer) I also buy a mouthwash with enamel care i buy the store brand of listerine with enamel care either target or bed bath & beyond

Of course eating Greek yogurt is good too since you get calcium, Protein and Probiotics but don’t forget your probiotic Fiber (like chicory root, or tapioca fiber, flax is also very good but psyllium sucks)

vitamin k. They do have combinations of calcium, d3 and vitamin k now too.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
