My surgery is in 3 wks and my preop appointment is Thursday so I am getting excited/ anxious. I would like as much detail about the day of as anyone can remember. Did you just have an IV? Did you have to have an injection before surgery? Basically I am a giant baby when it comes to needles. I’ve worked up to being ok with blood draws and ivs but still freak about regular injections. So advanced warning might help.

After surgery did anyone have a drain? I think I read something that some people have them and others don’t....anyone know the reasoning?

thanks!!

Hello! How exciting to be in the home stretch! I had gastric bypass, but only had an IV and they crushed up a cocktail of meds for me to swallow with Water before hand. It was neurontin for nerve pain, a PPI, anti nausea meds, etc. I did not have any injections before surgery, but did have injections of blood thinners after surgery. NO big deal.

I did not have a drain. The post-surgery period was fine. I was given anti-nausea meds and pain meds with regularity, and never felt nauseous. The pain was very manageable with the meds.

Get up out of bed and walk, walk, walk, and take little sips of the beverage they give you to drink, and you'll be fine.

Good luck, you've got this!

yes to IV, no to drain, was given shots of Heparin in the belly b4 surgery and 2x a day afterwards, it must be the smallest needle ever because I never felt it and I am a big baby :)

Thank you! Im excited and impatient! I've had surgery several times before but never anything on my gut or that requires a hospital stay. I do better with more information so I'm gathering all I can

I find it really helps not to look at the needle and just sing something to yourself and before you know it, it’s over. Even if it’s the abc song. For me, the more I see it, the more it freaks me out, but if I don’t look and distract myself, it flies by.

Good idea! Looks like your surgery is the day before mine, congrats!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
