Lots of gas when I try to drink

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

So I had my surgery yesterday, got the leak test completed and all is well to start my clear liquid diet. My question is, every time I seem to drink something, (I’m only taking very tiny sips) but I get serious like gas burping pain... has anyone had this feeling after surgery? If so, how long did it last?

I cant drink as much as I should because of this awkward burping gas I get.

Thank you!

I couldn't eat or drink much the day after surgery. I mostly drank Water an ounce at a time very slowly. I am only two 1/2 weeks out and frequently burp and pass gas. I always feel better when I do. I think it's normal.

I had it and it would happen even when I stood up. I think there's a lot of residual gas left in our system after the surgery not to mention swelling. It was like a dull ache at the top of my stomach/chest area when I would drink and it felt like I had to burp but couldn't. Heating my liquids, even the Water, helped me a lot. It went away after about a week.

Thanks for the reply justmej, that helps ease my mind a little bit because that’s exactly how I’m feeling. Like stomach/chest area have a dull ache like I have to burp but can’t. So glad that this is normal feeling

Walk around, sometimes the motion will free it up a little. And like prior poster, warm liquids and things help.😋👍😝

This may sound dumb but put your heating pan on your tummy , it might help relax things enough that the gas burps up.

You may have to get used to it. I had my sleeve surgery in 2013 and still have constant gas. Good luck.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
