There are certain things that some insurance carriers will cover. For instance, if you have skin folds that get rashes in them. This would need to be treated and documented by a doctor. Also, if you have hernias, the insurance might pay for the hernia repair and you might pay for the skin removal done at the same time. But, it is all dependent on your particular situation and your insurance carrier.

like the above poster said, some policies will cover it - or part of it - if you have documented medical issues with the loose skin, like chronic rashes. So see your doctor whenever you have these kinds of issues so you have a paper trail.

outside of this, it's very difficult to get insurance coverage for plastic surgery since it's considered cosmetic (and elective).

Begin by going to your insurance website, search "criteria for panniculectomy" & "criteria for abdominoplasty" and print it for the doc.

Then, if you have pain, rashes etc....caused by the skin, go to pain management or another doc, NOT a PS, get a referral from that doc to PS for surgery. Bring the insurance criteria.

It can also be helpful to write your own letter to go with the PA request. Mention co-morbidities that are resolved, how exercise is crucial to maintenance and keeping co-morbidities gone, how the skin affects those things.

Best of luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
