excess skin after surgery....

Recommended Posts

I had Gastric Bypass August 5, 2011. I've lost over 125 pounds. But, I have soooo much excess skin. I have become so depressed, I stay in my house, and to myself like I have always done. I feel just as "fat" as if never even had this surgery. My insurance paid for the entire bypass. They tell me they will not cover the cost of the skin removal because they consider it to be "cosmetic". Does anyone reading this know a doctor that will do the surgery and take payments? I have also heard there are some doctors who will do the skin removal and word it in a way that insurance will cover it..... Anyone???

My surgeon told me insurance will cover the skin removal if you've got documented evidence that the excess skin is causing rashes/chronic yeast infections/etc that medical management hasn't helped (creams, powders, keeping it dry, etc). If that's not an option, could you get some compression garments, like Spanx, to help "reign in" the loose skin? I've lost about 70 lbs in 5.5 months, and have a little loose skin. I always feel better with a tight camisole or something under my clothes.

My insurance will pay for a Tummy Tuck if there's pics of irritation sent in. They won't pay for anything else. BUT plastic surgeons do give deep discounts.

My insurance will pay for the stomach only and that is if you can prove medical need. I am having my arms and breasts done in the spring and will be paying out of pocket.

I suggest looking into finance options (which will allow you to pay monthly) and also Medical Tourism if you can find someone to travel with you. Going to even BP's affiliated surgeons would have saved me 8,000$. Ultimately I decided it was worth the extra money to stay in the states.

I wish you lucK.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
