February 2019 weight loss buds

Recommended Posts

Yeah after being on chemo for a full year at the age of 40, then needing a hysterectomy at the age of 45, monthly fluctuations are way back in my rear-view mirror.
Sucks, because I started gaining even more weight early because of the early induced menopause.
On the upside, I’ve already been through that so now I don’t have to deal with all of the weight gain that comes from pre and peri- menopause post surgery.
Lol, I’ve already been through all of that hot mess. 🤣🤣

Possible. Who knows what exactly happens to our hormonal balance when such a thing happens.
I had to get mine done when my 21yo daughter was born. I’d had multiple miscarriages and her and her brother were high-risk pregnancies.
My OB told me after she was born healthy that he so strongly recommended tubal ligation for my survival that he would refuse to be my doc if I got pregnant again.
Soooo it’s been almost 22 years since that also and I can remember suffering a lot of depression. Hard to know if it was mild PPD, the realization I’d never have another baby again, or hormonal shifts from the procedure.
Guess I’ll never know but that’s also something that’s really really far back and I’m glad it’s done with.

So how is everyone doing this weekend?

So far I’ve done a fair bit of gardening work, went to support group, visited a friend in the hospital, done 2 Pilates classes, and have started some prep work for my spare bedroom remodel.
Lol, can’t wait for tomorrow so I can go to work and “rest”

My big news: When I weighed myself on Friday, I was at 199.6 lbs! I can't even remember the last time I was under 200--even if it's only by .4 pounds!

The other news is that we took our first mini-vacation (three days) this weekend, and every meal was in a restaurant. I stayed fully on the program by ordering strategically and then only eating what I could. (In one case I had to order a full meal and eat just a fraction, which is sort of a waste of money.) The downside is that it reminded me that I will never again be able to go to a restaurant and eat like a normal person. I try to keep telling myself that I will probably live 10 to 15 years longer thanks to the surgery, and that makes it all worthwhile.

Wow,you guys!
I’m so excited for both of you! 🎉🎉🎉
I’m currently sitting at 208.4, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’m under 200 by the end of the month

That sounds like an active weekend! I generally did housework. I am starting to have more pain in my chest when I've been eating lately. That has been making eating much less enjoyable (although I don't really think of eating as enjoyable after surgery, more like necessary). I might have to start taking reflux medication again. I took it prior to gastric bypass but was told that I would no longer need it after about 6 weeks after surgery. I was hoping my GERD would be healed after the bypass. Has anyone else gone off their GERD meds after bypass and found the pain in the chest scenario I'm describing?

Sweet! Reaching ONEderland should be a huge celebration. I've been at 198 for about a week now. At my last post-op appointment I was told that the weight loss is like a rollercoaster ride--sometimes you take a drop and other times you just coast along. I guess I'm just coasting! May I ask what you ate at all the restaurants? I have the best luck eating the four-piece grilled chicken bites at Chick-fil-A. They seem to be the right portion size, although I mostly eat only three. They have a good flavor. Other places I've just had shrimp and a few potatoes, eating the shrimp very slowly. The au gratin potatoes are a no-no, but I had a few and am counting the cheese as a wee bit of Protein. Would love to hear what successes you had "off the menu."

Congrats to you guys who have broken through a barrier! Great news!

My weekend is going ok... just a hormonal blip going on here haha. I'm just trying to eat sensibly and get through it. What amazes me though is that when I have PMS I don't have the same restriction as normal. Can anyone explain that? I can understand having more hunger, but I'm talking physical restriction.

Congrats to all of you surpassing milestones! I’ve been at 203 for the last 5 days, hoping to see a drop soon. I’ve been experimenting with teas and sf Torani syrups today. I think my favorite so far is Tazo Passion with the lemonade drink stick added and the Passion with Raspberry Syrup.< br />
As I get further out and the newness is wearing off I find myself with the head hunger struggle more and more. I had a couple of servings of nuts the last day or 2 and have decided I’m not mentally ready for snack type foods and I plan to save nuts mostly for maintenance.

Sounds like a good plan.
Well my daily weighing for this week is paying off.
Got on the scale and had another 0.8 pound loss for a total of 2 whole pounds since Monday!
Wow, this is the most I’ve lost since the first 2 weeks.
I’m completely psyched now and drinking Water like a maniac again
Wow..... if I keep this up I might actually have a week where OVER 3 whole pounds drop off!!!!!!

Lol, I know that number seems teeny to some of you guys who are losing like rock stars, but I’m cursed with extremely slooooooooow progresss.

You and I are on the boat! I’ve been the same weight up and down within the same pound for 3 weeks. Finally today I weighed a pound less (since week 3!) but my progress has been noticeable in measurements so I won’t complain too much. I hope I make onederland by my birthday next mid-month. 12.5 pounds to go.....

I keep reminding myself that I will eventually lose the weight if I keep doing what I'm supposed to do. I'm naturally just very impatient. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night to pee, then I go check my weight. I've been stuck at 190 for 4 days then yesterday..."Hallelujah"....189.2 lol.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
