Weight Stall Venting

Recommended Posts

I'm down 1 lb in 11 days and I am heated. lol! I'm stuck on bland purees for another 5 weeks and have already been on them 4 weeks. I want to enjoy some food progression with other people, and also not just lose 1 single pound while eating flavorless mush. So bent out if shape right now.

Update: Still bent out of shape. lmao. 1lb in 2 weeks now. The dietitian said to wait another THREE WEEKS before being concerned. FIVE WEEKS TOTAL? NO WAY. I am going to flip once I hit the three week mark. lmao. Sorry.

You are entitled to a freak out. Most of us have experienced the emotional bariatric rollercoaster. This is one of many weight loss mental battles to overcome. Hang on for the ride.

Sad face. What kind of purees are you eating? Maybe we can think of things to add some flavor [emoji171]

A stall 3-5 weeks post op is completely normal and expected. It is your metabolism's way of slamming on the breaks and catching up with what is happening in your body metabolically.

I'm 4.5 years post op, trust me that 'stalls' are normal, and generally most surgeons aren't concerned unless the scale doesn't move for a couple MONTHS!! Hang in there

This is totally for my own sanity and not because I need a logical reply... but feel free anyways. I am 5 weeks out today and...

I HAVE NOT LOST A SINGLE POUND IN 8 DAYS AND WTF I AM EATING 400 CALORIES A DAY AND 100% ON MY DIET GIVEN MY ULCER SITUATION, AND DOESN'T THE HUMAN BODY BURN LIKE 4 TO 5 TIMES THAT AMOUNT OF CALORIES JUST SITTING AND DOING NOTHING ALL DAY SO WHAT IS THE DEAL, BODY??!??!?! WHO EATS ALMOST PURE Protein AND EXTREMELY LOW FAT AND CARBS AND DOESN'T LOSE A SINGLE POUND IN OVER A WEEK? AND YES I AM FRIGGIN' HYDRATED. GET REAL, BODY! DO SOMETTHIIINNNGGG.

Aight, I'm better. Not really. But UGH! I lost this much on Atkins. FMLLLLL.

Just had to rant. Woooosssaaaa.

I would suggest you watch my YT video called "WLS STALLS SUCK"... I just broke a 4-week stall as I am 4-years out. I can assure you you need to increase calories, not reduced. Your body will not burn calories if it thinks you are starving. Search "Gastric Couple on YT... Joe

I'm not reducing calories. I'm eating the number of calories my surgeon told me to. I can't each much more anyways, even if I was allowed, because of my marginal ulcer.

Addy had an ulcer as well... you're doing great if that's the case.. 400 calories is not enough to lose weight and stay healthy.... did they give you Carafate or Protonics?

Addy has a "Complications" video as well... sounds like it may help you. Friend, this is a dangerous place to be... you staying hydrated is a HUGE victory!

I'm convinced most people should not weight often early on.
I agree but how do I resist the temptation of jumping on the scale? !? I tried putting the scale in an incovienent location and still found myself going through the effort to grab it.

In your situation, I would forget about weight loss and focus on getting intake down. 400 calories is not enough and I'm not aware of any professional who would tell someone that. Please reach out to Addy or myself directly if possible..... We are 4-years out and help ppl for free.... I'm worried for you.

I think you responded to the wrong person. Original poster is the one eating 400 calories a day, not me. I was just talking about being addicted to the scale.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
