Im 3 weeks post op and I swear my smelling has turned into a superpower. I’m the only one recognizing these strong scents in my house and things I liked before make me sick now. The smell of the soaps in my bathroom absolutely nauseate me! Has anyone else experienced this? Will it go away??

I noticed an increase in sense of smell for a little while. I noticed an increase in taste ability as well for a bit. Both have gone back to normal at this point.

Yes! I had this! I'm already basically back to normal at 7 weeks. But the first month or so I was acutely aware of everyone's breath. Not my favorite time.

I am 5 years out, my sense of smell and my sense of taste is still in overdrive!! I get a certain smell when I (hold on I know this is gross) blow my nose!! It is so strong I even taste it. I loved onions and garlic before my RNY. I tell you what until just recently they both made me sick to my tummy!! My poor hubby, he was so sad. He was a CHEF in the Navy, and he knows what it takes to season. Thank goodness its so much better for those 2 things, I can do them unless the garlic is strong. I still would never state that I want the senses to stop!! To my way of thinking it just helps me out.

I smell everything more clearly as well but unfortunately it's breath. Not all bad but my brother ate truffle cheese and I swear I could smell his breath the whole day he was around. I also smell what my daughter eats in a day. It's kind of driving me crazy. I think I will just start putting a little perfume up under my nose to block the other smells[emoji30]

How long does the super smell go away? I can't eat anything or keep anything down bc of it. I can smell EVERYTHING! I am 3 weeks post op and last 5 days have been awful.

If I remember correctly, after my lap band many years ago, my super heightened sense of smell lasted about 6-7 weeks post op. Like someone else said, mine was most sensitive to breath and I could smell it from across the table! Super bizarre!

Hey there! It took me until I could eat solids again. i think eating more "regular food" de-sensitized me to it all. I could be wrong, but it definitely seemed that way. So a good 6 to 8 weeks and my super smell completely went away. I'm yours will go away soon. I know how annoying it is to have someone walk in a room and immediately smell their breath/cologne/B.O. LOL NOT FUN! This is all worth it, don't you worry!

Have you noticed though some things smell so very good, you say to yourself" I believe I'll try a small piece of that! So you do and it tastes like something even the dog would refuse and he has been to get into the refuse bin!
I had made some snickerdoodels, first cookie I learned to make way back when I was a Brownie. Yeah I know people on liquid diet shouldn't eat Cookies, but it was gonna be 1/8th of a small 🍪. I am human as well as a Bariatric Patient, and I needed a little reward, figured it wouldn't matter, I urp up all solids anyway. So I grasped the 🍪 piece in my little hands and put it in my mouth. OMG all I could taste was Baking soda, no sweet and tasty sensation, just cinnamon-covered baking soda.. Yccch, spit it right out on the saucer, not going THERE again.
And my most offensive and pervasive offender to Me, my💪 armpits, Oh I wash them, I have put baking soda there, tried multiple deodorants and antiperspirant, it's like rotting onions and garlic, maybe the Vitamins or other post- surgery meds. IDK, Tomkitten hasn't complained but I just can't escape it, I almost would trade it for ketosis breath. THAT I might be able to gargle away!😧

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
