5 month stall, anybody else?

Recommended Posts

I have been stalled for he past week or two. This seems to be my longest stall yet. Every time I stalled before, I would carb cycle and start losing again, but not this time. I feel like the loss is over. I know that’s dramatic, but any tips on how to get it going again?

I could list a bunch of questions... But lets just start with this.
Could you please list your surgery, your Water intake, your typical calorie intake, your BMR if you know it or your age, sex and height and we can figure out your BMR. So many things to go over, but without knowing ANY of your specifics, I could go on and on and not be going in the right direction because I don't know anything required to properly answer your question.

Sorry for not sharing more info!

I had the gastric sleeve on April 18th of this year, so 5 months out on the 18th.

My Water intake varies. I did have a week or two there where it was very low and I had to step it up. I feel like that may have been one of the causes of the stall but now I'm back up to about 64 ounces a day, just water alone. I also have a lot of other fluids but I don't track them as water.

Typical calorie intake varies from 600-1200. Average days are between 800-1000. I keep my carbs below 70 and don't consume sugar. My minimum Protein goal is 70g, which I meet daily with very few days being under.

I used a BMR calculator and got 1,836 calories per day.

HW: 320

SW: 295

CW: 239

I am nervous that this could be caused by inactivity, as I had a herniated disk in my back that made it so I was unable to walk for about 2 months. I'm working on it now and am starting a workout routine today.

Thanks!
Work on getting your water up to 128 oz a day. That 64oz is beyond bare minimum. The human body uses water to break down fat, so if you don't give it enough to process it's daily requirements, fat loss will suffer.

Intake is a tad low, but if you've been inactive so that's not THAT bad.

You are still down 40ish lbs in 5 months, that's still a decent amount, don't let the whole picture or the dreams get in the way of celebrating the accomplishments you've done already. I understand it's not all of it, or your goal, but, it took you longer than 5 mounts to get overweight... it's going to take a while to get rid of it all.

Make sure you are talking with your surgical team and nutritionist, you can look into Intermittent fasting(IF) as well if you feel things just aren't sorting themselves out. I'm doing an 8-6 IF, so I only eat between 8am and 6pm. This has really kicked up my weight loss!

Thank you so much for your insight!

Water is definitely something that I am working on. I'm going to increase my intake and make sure that I always have water with me.

I'm confused that you mentioned that my intake is a bit low. I was actually concerned that it might be high for only being 5 months out. I've been paranoid that's what has caused my stall. Where do you think my intake should be at? Or were you talking about a macro specifically?

I'm down over 80 pounds overall, so I'm definitely proud of that! I'm just still not where I want to be and a bit concerned that this stall is lasting longer than the others. I do have hormonal issues as well, and I'm hoping they won't lead to any gain.

I have been in contact with my nutritionist and surgeon, but it's been a bit since I reached out. I had my surgery in Mexico, so I don't have a doctor that I follow up with here, just my family doctor.

I tried IF before my surgery, as well as a full ketogenic diet but it didn't work well for me then. There were too many fats and my body didn't digest them well. Do you think IF would be a good idea with my calories where they are?

Weight is lost in the kitchen not the gym. This means it is more important to focus on what and how much goes in your mouth versus how much or little you exercise.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
