Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital

Recommended Posts

Day 4 after surgery. Really struggling with heart burn and getting any fluids in. Trying to be more scheduled about it now but it’s tough. Just had about 4 teaspoons of thinned mashed potatoes. They tasted great but I could not even touch the recommended 1-2 tablespoons. I have lost another pound. I would say first week post op is harder than clear liquid preop. Mostly bc I’m dealing with this heartburn issue.

I was sleeved 8/20. I’m at exactly 3 weeks. I hope you make it home soon. I was disappointed that my go at it wasn’t as smooth and pain free as others make it sound. But somewhere around 2.5 weeks I started feeling great. Good luck to you.

I was released from the hospital on 9/6. I just don’t know how to change the title!

Glad to see you’re out of the hospital. My dr. gave me antacid medication that I have to take for a month. I forgot about it yesterday and found out why he gave it to me. Ouch. Anyway, once I took it everything was fine. Might be something to ask your dr. about to help you with the heartburn.

Day 5 and I’m feeling a lot better. I am getting more hydration and am relieved to hear that the heartburn is normal. It is also subsiding a bit. I am really focusing today on Water and Protein and walking. Info and encouragement from these forums has helped me with a lot of the stuff I’ve been struggling with. I am so grateful. Just got back from a walk. Gonna rest now!

Feeling much better physically today then a mental/emotional bump in the road. Argued with my husband and it was a strange sensation to not eat my feelings. Instead I took a few laps around my kitchen island and drank some Water sips. Crying hurts the big incision so I had to suck that up too. I am eager to get to a point where I can jog these feelings away. A title discouraged but I’ve survived worse!

Y’all every day is getting easier and easier. I have learned a lot about swelling right after surgery. It makes it so much harder to take anything in. Swelling of the stomach and the throat as well. This has encouraged me to have patience. Today I doubled my fluids from yesterday and also doubled my Protein. I am getting the hang of this!!! The heartburn still bothers me on occasion but is also subsiding significantly. I keep Water in my hand almost all the time and this helps me remember to sip. Tomorrow is my last day with Rx pain medication. I have taken it and have needed it for incision pain. I have liquid acetaminophen standing by in case I need it down the road. This concludes day six post op for me!

@TX4everLinds
I’ve been trying to follow your updates and hoping my recovery is similar to yours! I had the sleeve on 9/10. I was released from the hospital on 9/11. I’m struggling with Fluid. Have a lot of stomach pain- i think a combination of incisions, swelling and probably gas. My throat doesn’t bother me as much as my stomach. I’m having problems just finding a comfortable position to sit or lay in. I’ve been putting Protein on the back burner while I focus mostly on trying to get Water down. Right now the protein makes me feel a little sick. I keep trying with the water because I don’t want to end up back in the hospital for dehydration. Are you able to get your full 64 oz in yet? Have you had any issues with nausea or vomiting? Sorry to bombard you with questions!! Very glad you are finally feeling better!!

@mandy1013 the first couple days Home from the hospital were the hardest. No way am I getting anywhere near 64oz. But I am peeing multiple times a day, more so now that I’m able to keep more down. Day 2 I only had couple sips and my barium drink. Day 3 and 4 hardly anything more than the Water for medicine. Day 5 I got serious about sipping and drank 38oz and was really excited. Day 6 (yesterday) was just under 50 and that included Protein Shakes as Fluid. My goal yesterday was to add 8oz more than the day before. My stomach and throat were so swollen and tender there’s no way I could get more than a few sips early on. I gagged once right after taking medicine and threw up water but it was only a little and went away. It wasn’t like an event that kept on. I’ve had some serious pain and just have to pause and breathe. I found a sipping rhythm that works for me. Work on that and it will help you stay hydrated. I’ll keep posting updates!!

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

        That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
