October 2018 Sleevers

When does yours hurt? Mine hurts only when I lay down and relax my stomach. It doesn’t hurt getting up or even sitting like the other pain from the beginning was. I just hope it is not a hernia
Mine hurts when I move the wrong way. It's the only place that still hurts when I get up or bend. It also hurts if I touch the area.

What stage are you in that you can do applesauce. I’m 4 days out and ready for cream of chicken soup!
I’m not even sure but to be honest I tried it because I mashed up the Multi Vitamins are hard for me to do alone and I mixed it but the day of discharge the bariatric nutritionist told me it was ok to try after about 3 days I did it about day 5

Not much I just got the Greek yogurt to try and the almond kind
Maybe not enough Protein is the issue. I would follow what your surgeon recommends, they should have given you a very specific plan. Greek yogurt is good and has a lot of protein but the Protein Drinks are really the best way to get it in right now.

Right now I am doing sugar free popsicles ,broth , apple sauce and Jello I was doing the drinkable yogurt but my friend told me that could have been my problem because it’s high in sugar so I stopped like two days ago. The last two days I barley ate or drank anything and and still nothing has changed. I know I shouldn’t be taking in no more then 400 calories

That's a good tip not to have drinkable yogurt post-op. I just went and bought the drinkable yogurts today for pre-op, which starts Monday, and then post-op for after my Oct 23rd surgery. I think I will just drink them just for pre-op (since I bought them and don't want them to go to waste) and hold off for post-op. Congrats on the weight loss so far. That's great!

I'm nervous too, @kata0683. I just keep hoping I'm making the right choice. I started my pre-op diet this past Wednesday. The headache the first couple days was really horrible. I'm more used to it now but still a bit hungry. How's the diet going for you?

Thank you , I think it’s ok as long as it’s not high in sugar I think that was my issue too

The headache are killing me. But yesterday was better. My husband just feels guilty. That im not eating the same thing they are eating. We ended up taking a quick road trip n i packed everything for my kids n baby but forgot my shakes. So i asked him to stop by a Wal-Mart to pick up some but of course there were none around. I need to be better orepared and leave th8ngs in all the cars especially for after surgery.

Yes, I have the same thing. I think the taste is from all the whey Protein.

Spent Friday afternoon cooking a bunch of purees for after surgery - spinach, sweet potato, butternut squash, and black bean. I like to pre-prepare foods and even though surgery is two weeks away and I'll have two weeks after that before I get to purees, I just wanted to do something to feel prepared.

Disclaimer for the following: I'm really just rambling here because I need to say this somewhere, but don't have anyone here to talk to about it (until I meet with my therapist next week), so not looking for anyone to make this decision for me. I am really not sure if I want to do this. I am terrible at making big decisions like this, so I know that I'll never be sure. I have tried everything to lose weight, and nothing has worked. So mentally I know this is the only way to do it for me. But I still just don't want to - I don't want to have any surgery (I've been putting off fixing a ligament tear for 2 years), I'm afraid that as a pescatarian (who really doesn't eat that much fish - mostly vegetarian foods), I wont be able to get enough Protein without shakes (even in the long term) or that I'll have to start eating chicken after 25 years of not), and I have other fears. But I'm also afraid if I don't I'll just keep gaining and not be able to stay in my multi-story home or travel or oh so many things. Anyway, like I said, I just needed to get this out in the universe. I plan to have an extra long session with my therapist next week to talk all this through (she specializes in weight issues and is great).

And another possibility, you may be starting to burn off your fat, people complain of impaired taste and think they develop B O.

PSA for the ladies: lane Bryant is having a bogo $15 on their active wear and tees, plus 25 off 75, 50$ off $150, etc. I was able to get some stuff in smaller sizes on sale.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
