October 2018 Sleevers

OK my stall has been two weeks now. I tried and increased my calorie intake and that still has not worked. Feeling I made the wrong decision with this surgery. Has anyone else have a stall for this long?

I was sleeved on 10/16 and stalled for 3.5 weeks at 2.5 weeks out. I am now 6 weeks and just dropped 4 lbs...whew.. I will say I see a major difference in clothes fitting despite the stall. Almost none of my old clothes fit anymore. Take lots of photos and measurements to use because the scale does not always tell the truth. [emoji12]

Lucky. I've lost 40# from my high weight (about 20# from surgery) and ALL of my clothes still basically fit. They're too large in the legs, but fit just fine at the waist/hips. I have some clothes in a smaller size and none of them even begin to fit. I'm doing measurements every month - so I'll see the numbers on that later this week.

Its funny, my therapist asked me how much I'd lost and I didn't know what to say - I have a spreadsheet with 3 totals: Total from my high weight, total from the day I started the pre-surgery diet, and total from surgery day. :)

I feel the same way!

Same here! I am 95 lbs down from my highest weight ever, 70 down from last Fall, and 32 down from surgery including preop diet loss.

Just an FYI you may want to ask your Dr what you should have because everybody's Drs instructions are different according to your body l. My Dr told me and my co sleevers no sugar at all no carbs at all as far as bread and Pasta and 48 to 64 ounces of liquid a day and 70 grams of Protein. You just may want to ask because you don't want to start on sugar and carbs too fast. I did cheat on thanksgiving had a little stuffing a few times but it took too long to digest so I know I'm not ready for that yet.

Eating a zero carb plan basically means you eat nothing but meat and fat and nothing else. No egg yolks, no dairy, no vegetables or fruit can be included as they contain carbohydrates.

I just came back from my one month checkup with my surgeon. He informed me not to have any carbs just Protein and to eat only 3 meals a day. I don't think that is right for me as i still can only tolerate about 2 ounces a food at a time and I don't think 6 ounces a food a day is good for my system. I will still continue to eat 5 small meals a day. He did state for me to still have eggs and vegetables, just no bread or Pasta. He also informed me that i was having too much dairy in my diet (i.e. Protein Drinks, yogurt, lowfat cottage cheese).

I’m curious why he thought too much dairy was an issue? Also, I’m with you on the 5 small meals. Not only because of capacity, but I also get hungry every 3-4 hours.

My surgeon stated that there are too many carbs in dairy. I just started having some meats and they are not digesting very well with me. I am shocked that so many doctors have such different diets post surgery. I am not in agreement with my doctor regarding nothing but Protein and only 3 meals a day so I am going to listen to what my body is telling me. How can i eat only meat when i am still having such a problem digesting it?

I ate a lot of yogurt in the first few weeks. It was high in Protein and made me full. I ate the Oikos Triple zero.

Has anyone had their first sickness with gastroenteritis? Holy crow Batman! It hit me out of no where and my surgeon referred me to the ED. After 2 L of Fluid I was feeling a lot better, but my sodium and potassium were low so they had me take a pill and sip on Water to test my stomach. That resulted in 3 more hours there, another liter of fluids, and about 20 bathroom trips. I chose not to be admitted and am going to try home first but DANG!!! I came home 5 pounds heavier, my abdomen cramping like crazy, and my pouch giving me a second taste of anything I put in it. Hopefully I can sleep through it and tomorrow will be better and I can get fluids down. I do not want a return trip. Anyone else been through this yet? I'm ready to never do it again

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
