Hi! I had the sleeve on July 16, I've been doing ok with trying to get my shakes in but I'm having a terrible time with my Vitamins. I'm not sure if it's the brand or just taking vitamins in general. I got my vitamins from Bariatric Advantage both the multi and the Calcium. Aside from them tasting terrible, I feel like vomiting shortly after taking just 1. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

Congratz on your surgery! Way to go! Ask your doctor if it is ok to use those until you can swallow pills again.

It was hard for me to swallow my actual medications at first. I take two women's Once A Day gummies. It's almost like a little sweet treat! Haha! Also, make sure that whatever Vitamins you get have Iron. A lot of Multivitamins do not. I also take a tiny pill iron supplement, and a Biotin dissolvable that I got from Bariatric Pal.

I had to use vitamin patches because the chewable made me throw up and I still can't swallow a Vitamin because I need a lot of Water to get a pill down. I still use them and I am 4 months out. You can get them here through bariatric pal.

I used Bariatric Advantage and would use a pill crusher and turn them to dust. You could try taking a little at a time.Im not sure if it’s acceptable but maybe crush them and put them in some water.I hope you get relief soon.

Crush them and put them in hot broth ... or shake. Still taste gross but better than nothing

I'm so glad I got the Patches. I wear a Multi-Vitamin patch and a Biotin patch every night while I sleep. Take them off 8 hours later and done. My surgeon recommended them and I got them cheaper off of this site than in the surgeon's office (PatchMD is the brand).

Something happened to my post... it should have said to ask your doctor about the Vitamin patches... sometimes this site is very glitchy...

Thank you everyone for your help! I'm going to ask my doctor about the Patches that sounds awesome! In the meantime I'll try crushing and mixing them in, good ideas!!! You are all so helpful!

I wanted to do the Patches, but they're not FDA approved. And Tespo? I've been on this site for a minute, and I haven't heard good things about it. They're both so expensive!

I'm enjoying BariMelts. They dissolve quickly and taste like sweet tarts. Call them and they will send samples.

Ask if you can start taking pills yet.

I had the same issue with chewables making me nauseas. In my 5+ months post op, Vitamins are the one thing that have actually made me vomit.

My surgeon's PA recommended Whole Foods prenatal. They don't bother my stomach at all.

I stayed away from gummies because there aren't any that are very complete. And the Patches fall into the too good to be true category for me.

Thank you!! I can't wait till I can swallow pills again but I think I'm long away from that.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
