10 days out and feel no restriction

Recommended Posts

I'm new here. Had surgery on July 2nd. Been a very easy recovery but i feel no restriction at all. Still on full liquid stage and eating only what I'm supposed to but starving. Getting in my Protein with GENEPRO 3 times a day. And I'm sure I should not be weighing myself but I cant help it. Lost 20 pounds first seven days but the scale has not moved in the last four. Just seeking some reassurance that this is normal.

It’s perfectly normal. I was sleeved on 6/18/18 and I had the same concerns. The other members here assured me that when I got to the mushy food stage I would begin to feel the restriction. They were right. It all seems strange right now, but rest assured when you start to have some normal intake, you will feel the restriction.

welcome newbie

congrats on loosing 20 lbs, great start

no one feels restriction with liquids only.:(

once you start eating mush, purees', soft and the ever popular solids, you

will feel the restriction that we love. all WLS will "assist" you in loosing the weight.

you work with the sleeve, and it will work for/with you

don't obsess over the scale. give yourself a break away from the "numbers"

good luck

@Sweedfire86 Thank you so much for the reassuring words. I have been kinda worried but was hoping this was normal for some people. I see some that struggle just getting in the amount of liquid they need. I don't have that problem. lol

@proudgrammy Thanks for making me feel NORMAL! haha I am really excited and ready to see the results. I have definitely realized over the last couple weeks how huge of a part food has always been in my life and am determined to make this work.

When you start eating actual food...you will feel restriction. You are normal.

I sat in hospital, then at home, wondering if my surgeon cut me, sewed it up, and did no surgery!

But once I was on solids, then I saw all was as expected.

I don’t really get a feeling of ‘restriction’ like I thought I would (I am a bypass, not a sleeve). I don’t get hungry, I don’t get stuffed full but I eat and then sort of get a ‘ok, enough, time to do something else’ after about a cup of food...

As others have said, the restriction will come with more solid foods.

Re: staying the same weight for 4 days: your body is still healing from major surgery so weight loss in the first month can be very random and many surgeons recommend people don't even weigh themselves until 4-6 weeks post op at their first surgeon follow up. Even after healing you will find your weight stalling at random times, sometimes for only a week, sometimes for much longer. Most of the stalls are just your body temporarily holding onto more Water or waste for a bit, they aren't a sign that you are no longer losing fat or your sleeve/diet is failing. Provided you are following your plan, getting in your Protein, water and Vitamins and not having too many calories your body has no choice but to continue to break down fat to make up the caloric deficit between what you are consuming and what your body needs to function. If you aren't getting enough protein in you will be breaking down some lean tissue along with the fat which you don't want that happening.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
