Much harder than I thought it would be!

I had mini gastric bypass in April 2018. I did well during my pre-op diet and in the first 2 weeks, I lost lots of weight. I’m now 6 weeks out, no weight loss since week 2 and putting weight on now. It’s all going wrong! I thought the weight would just fall off, but it doesn’t. I’m struggling to see what I have achieved by having the surgery!

Hi Ryla,

What does your surgeon/nuitritionist say? Additionally, why don't you post your daily meals here? A lot of the vets on here may be able to offer advice.

First and foremost, stalls do and will happen, and they happen differently for everyone. Your body will need time to pause and re-calibrate itself.

That said, are you tracking your Protein and Water intake? Are they both meeting what your nutritionist has set for you? Are you exercising like you are supposed to be? Even the Bypass isn't a quick fix... it takes effort and change. You can absolutely "eat around" the bypass. If your calorie intake is lower than your calorie burn, then you will lose weight, no questions. So, something is off. Are you going to the bathroom normally? Have you brought this issue up to your surgical team / nutritionist?

Hi, I’m going to see my nutritionist and my surgeon for my six week check tomorrow so I’ll have a good chat with them and perhaps they can get me back on track! Thanks for your thoughts x

I experienced the same thing. I think my body went into shock post op. I had a good 6 week stall which was horrible, and felt like I totally wasted my money on this, but then....... the weight started falling off like crazy. Just stick with it, your body will catch up when its ready.

Thanks! I really hope so. My dietician gave me a good talking to and reminded me of a few tips that I had forgotten. I’m going to go one day at a time and stick to my structured eating plan. Hopefully this will get me back on track.

I think I’m also going to stop weighing myself to free me from the pressure of seeing the blips in weight which I find soul destroying.

I think a lot of my eating is head hunger rather than real hunger, so I’m also trying to be a bit more aware of how I actually feel before I start eating.

Let’s see how long I can keep it up! x

Nope, it doesn't. Wouldn't it be cool if it did?

But nope...you've gotta fight for every pound of loss.

You have to religiously stick to your calorie goal, which sucks because recording every single thing that goes in your mouth is a HUGE pain in the arse...but it's necessary. A necessary, boring, redundant, irritating evil. Did I mention necessary, though? Log that food. Every bite. Yes, it sucks. I'm sorry.

You have to move, too. Exercise like it's a prescription. Don't miss doses. Don't go crazy, but do challenge yourself, whatever your fitness level is. Keep moving.

Fight the good fight. You can do this.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
