What the heck

Recommended Posts

I'm doing a vlcd for pre-op. 3 weeks. First week I lost 8 lbs. Second week total was 13.

Now I'm back to the 8 pounds total loss. Who gains on a 6-800 Cal diet?! I'm going to try to recalibrate my scale. This just cannot be right. I'm so disappointed. I cheated the tiniest bit once and with Protein.

I'm hydrating like a mad woman....[emoji45]

If you cheat, and go out of ketosis, you refill glycogen stores which can carry 2 molecules of Water each. It's possible to gain 2-6lbs overnight after cheating.

Well at least this makes it make some sense. I had about 2 normal people bites of baked chicken. I cut it into about 15 baby bites.

3 more days of vlcd then surgery.

That wouldn't do it.

Did it have sugar in it?

If not, you need new batteries in your scale. 15lbs in 1 week is implausible. Especially after the 8lb loss the week before which is entirely doable if you are formerly carby and also retaining Fluid. With 15lbs in the second week, you would have really had to be edemetous (lots of fluid)...which has been known to happen, but it isn't normal.

I ran it through my mind and I don't know what a vcld is...a liquid diet? I had to do a full liquid pre op for 2 weeks and I know I went from 292 to 279 in like 11 days, then I had a bagel, I cheated, I was eating like 600 calories a day like you. I KNOW Bagels are not good, I know they are full of carbs and I New better. But they were a favorite, and I wasn't in the mindset that I could never have them anymore but more like, what is the point of having them after surgery. So I ate one, not even slathered with cream cheese! I was good for the next 3 days! My weight stuck at 283 (282.something) everyday! I walked, I hydrated, I ate properly. Ugh. Surgery day- 282 point something

Water under the bridge I guess, 13 days post op.

Some of the weight lost in the first two weeks was Water, presumbably a high proportion. If this was the case, your body may have been dehyrdrated, some of the gain following the losses could be Fluid retention as your body resets its fluid levels.

@magpie26 A VLCD is a (very low calorie diet). Typically docs refer to any diet that is <1200cals a VLCD. But I kinda think it's anything below 800cals.

I had anywhere from 360-440calories per day on my pre-op liquid diet. It was a VLCD diet. It was also low carb which can also be shortened to a VLCD -- so it can be confusing. :D

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
