Heartfire - I know I joke about it all the time - but I really don't drink that often. My friends always joke that when I do - I DO (but they really just like to make fun that it's always girlie drinks)

As far as calories - because I usually know if a drinking night is coming - I just try to eat light that day and maybe the next. Mostly though - sometimes I figure it's moderation (sometimes) and still doing things I enjoy - end of the day calories in - calories out - get my ass out on the trail!

Oh I know y'all aren't drinking THAT much! LOL! I don't know where I got the fear of actually drinking. It's crazy. Like if I'm going to have one drink, there goes my weight for the entire week! I've become really paranoid about it! Need to get over that one!

Hello all, I am sorry I haven't been able to update ya'll but I no longer have internet.

I am going to read a few post after I post this.

They had trouble with the biopsy. They could only stick me 1 time. My muscle is in front of my thyroid and it made it very difficult to get it. I spoke with the Dr. last night. I have abnormal cells. But don't know if it is cancer or not. He is setting the surgery up for Sept. 4th. When he takes out the 1 he is going to have it biopsied right then. If it is cancerous then he will remove the other thyroid. Bweing a cancer survivor I deffinetly have my concerns.

I'm sorry it didn't go well. I'm glad they scheduled you quickly to get it out of there. Cancer or not, it'll make ME feel better once it's out! LOL!

My DBIL is still in SICU. They are going to put a trach (sp) in this week. When they removed him from the (drats I forgot what it's called) breathing tube thingy, he took a nose dive again. he was only off of it for 1 1/2 hrs. The Dr. said he will be in there for quite a while.

I'm sorry BIL isn't do so well. I'm still praying that he heals and can get out of there soon!

Update on newest addition to the family. My DD had her first OBGYN appointment yesterday. Due date is March 17th. We got to hear the heart beat! I am already in love with the newest member. It was just the shock of finding out that blew me away!

How exciting! Of course you're already in love! How could you not be? Don't worry about your initial shock/disappointment. It's only natural when the situation isn't ideal. I know. I have a sister!

I don't mind not having a phone so much. But my word I miss the internet! I miss not talking to ya'll every day. I have got to get it back some how.

Are there any cafes or book stores or libraries in your area that have free wi-fi? Just some ideas. We miss you!

So I pray you are all doing good. After I read some I will post more. Love you all.:)

We are doing good. It's not the same when you're not here tho! I had just started getting worried when you didn't check in all week. Had just hoped that you would have been able to sooner. That's okay tho!

TAKE CARE!!!!

i am :)

BUT i work out decently - i burned 613 calories in my spin class today then did a leg weight training routine w/DH - cause i KNOW wine is on the menu tonight.

i can only do "clear" liquor (vodka/gin/rum) or wine.

the dark colored liquors knock me OUT - FAST, and i like the buzz to last longer than 15mins:tongue_smilie:

*G4E - saw you on FB this AM, good thoughts going your way!!!!

*heartfire - okra is awesome in a gumbo & fried; but has them nasty calories.

well cause brandy had to brag yesterday - DH and i just picked up some lobster tails to grill tonight. have to make up for those calories sweated out.....

have a good evening all!!!

Hi everyone!

G4E-Continued prayers and good thoughts coming your way. Know that we think about you and miss you when you are gone.

Heartfire-I have only recently been drinking so I have no idea if it is slowing my weightloss. Of course, I have been losing slowly anyway, so I am not sure I would be able to tell the difference. I did add the calories to my daily totals that I keep up with on my iPhone.

KC-I am so sorry to hear about your root canal. Mouth pain is the pits. I hope this root canal goes well.

TPG-How are you doing on the liquids?

I hope that everyone (including those whose names I didn't mention) is having a wonderful weekend! I am off to tame the hair (if that is possible).

we had a really good time.

didn't spend too much time in our seats as DH really wanted to walk around and check out the new stadium.

was on the obnoxious side - but impressed w/the new stadium - bars/restaurants/seats/ etc.

sorry about the titans - DH couldn't care less about them, but if the cowboys were playing say the giants or eagles....you couldn't drag him out of his seat:)

G4E - good to hear from you - Prayers for you and BIL!

Thanks for the well wishes on my mouth - oddly I am not having any pain (not sure thats good) the root canal originally was done beginning of the year - never felt right and then all of a sudden an abscess developed above the root.

So revision on monday with endodontist specialist - $$$ (their hoping this will take care of the infection.)

To top it off I have a cavity - right in between 2 teeth - so it's actually 2 and because of the odd location they have to do a partial crown. I mean seriously - I take care of my teeth - WTH?!

I wanted it done all at once - but there on opposite sides of the mouth so they said they wont because I'll be numb all over. I tried to explain that I can handle a liquid diet for a day (duhh!)

They don't seem to understand - so back to the dentist on Tuesday. Just what I want to do on my 2 days off - oh well!

That is so funny about your DH. I think that the stadium sounds pretty fun. DH has never been to a professional game. DS and I have gone to see Atlanta play a few times. I actually went to see Atlanta play the Cowbows quite a few years ago. That was a really fun game (said with as much sarcasm as the computer will allow). The guy that I went with was a real chowder head. He paid $200 for scalped tickets for us to get in because he was/probably still is a HUGE cowboys fan. He spent all of his money so we had no drinks...no snacks...no NOTHING. I ended up having to buy us gas to get back home.

get good pain meds KC!!!!

I agree!

Michelle~ Sounds like you had a great dinner last night! Don't you just love it when you can throw food in a pan and voila, dinner! I am not a big drinker either, but all the drinks sound so yummy, I might have to try a few just for the fun of it!

Lu~ DH hates the Cowboys with a passion (he is a Chicago boy)- walked by and he was watching the game last night, which surpried me and I thought of you! Sounds like the new stadium is nice!

KC~ Good luck with the root canal - not fun! DD goes in to get her wisdom teeth removed on Sept 3, she is not very happy!

G4E~ Glad to hear from you! Will keep you and your BIL in my thoughts and prayers.

PJTP: I am a bit sore today, but not too bad. Not sure I will go for a run tonight, but might take a nice walk, just to get the muscles moving!

One of my former students is getting married this afternoon, so off to her wedding. DD is going with so we ran into Macy's to get her a dress, of course they are having a huge sale, so I had to try some clothes on!!! NSV - size 14 pants! Woo Hoo and they were comfortable. I need to try on my school clothes from last spring and make sure I am going to have something to wear!

Better start getting ready! BBL!

House is clean, yard is mowed, activity area on the back lot is ready. We have horseshoe pits, volleyball pit, couple of tetherball poles etc. up on a hill we own that overlooks our yard. I have the gifts ready to go, cake is ordered and supposed to be picked up at noon. drinks are bought---it will be non alcoholic---lots of kids and tee totaler inlaws! As far as I can see, I am as ready as I am getting for tomorrows party.

g4e---I am a bit confused. Are they looking at your thyroid gland or the para thyroids? I ask because you said if the biopsy done in the OR was positive for cancer cells they would remove the other thyroid.....

Are they going to attempt to leave one lobe of the thyroid or are you dealing with para thyroid problems?

My Mom had to have one of her (you have 4) parathyroids removed, and she had all kinds of issues prior to it---her body quit absorbing the Calcium she took in, it left her bones really brittle. But that was well over 30 years ago, and she is going strong, she breaks easy, but she keeps going!

We had discussed with mine leaving the left lobe, so my body could make its own thyroid hormone.

Your thyroid looks kind of like a bow tie in the middle of your throat area---each side is referred to as a lobe and the center is the isthmus. My right lobe had a tumor the size of a tennis ball and multiple small ones encompassed the isthmus, and the majority of the left lobe. There was not much point in trying to save it. I actually take less synthetic hormone now than I did with it in place and rotting away in there!!

I have always heard parathyroid issues are much worse---is that what you are dealing with???

Sorry BIL is not responding well. Coming off a venitlator is not always an easy thing.

My neighbor who has been gone for all these weeks treating throat cancer, is home. He got home yesterday. He has undergone 21 radiation treatments, and a full 6 weeks of infused chemo. His throat---well the neck and on through to the throat is terribly burned by the radiation. They have a menagerie over there, and it just makes me creep out, to see that poor raw skin with the ointment and to think of all the cat hair in that house! I am allergic to the cat hair, and can only be in their place a few minutes as it is flying all over. They have 8 cats, 2 dogs, a huge multi colored parrot, a gray parrot with a red tail (forget what it is called) a cockatoo, 3 fish aquariums, an aquarium with frogs, and a turtle.

The nicest people you could ever meet, she is the neighborhood busy body, but she watches our stuff like a hawk!!! Neighborhood watch in action!!!

They love these animals, and spoil them all. They had one son who is moved away, and they have their animals now. But I keep thinking of all that hair flying in the ointment on his poor neck.

He weighs less than a hundred pounds now, and is totally bald.

I lost my hair, but I stayed FAT~! WTH?????

Well off to convince DH it is happy hour at the local bar/restaurant, and they wanna cook for us tonight!

Hi everybody! Please forgive me if I leave someone out...my brain misses food :).

G4E, glad to hear from you. You and your family are in my prayers :cursing:.

Slim, sorry no NSV for you. I say try the booze. Maybe it's what your metabolism needs.

KC, sorry about the tooth. I paid an endodontist quite handsomely for the pleasure of 2 root canals. Mine turned out okay though. Hope you don't have any pain. Get good drugs!

Cont'd: Lulu, is lobster a clear liquid? Yum. Enjoy.

Kat - Hi!

Kristen, whoooo hoo on the 14s. WTG!

Heartfire, howdy!

PJTP: liquid diet is going okay. I'm really not hungry. I just spent the whole day cooking. Made German potato salad, slaw, baked Beans, and crab rangoon dip. All for tomorrow's party. I tasted as I cooked but mostly just the sauce parts. I didn't eat any! Tomorrow is gonna be rough. I'll just gaze longingly at the fruit for the chocolate fountain. When it's cake time, I'm picking up my camera and keeping busy. Sniffing the air in my house today was torture. Onions fried in bacon fat?!? Oh, save me from my fat self!! At least tomorrow I can wander outside. I still think wine is a clear liquid though :cursing:. How the heck will I do this party with the family cold sober?????:)

Hope you all have a great weekend!

PJTP...taking a break from homework, and look where I end up!

Love reading all the updates from everyone, seeing familiar names popping up.

Much love, good wishes, good health and tons of weight loss for those of us who want it, easy maintenance for those of us at or near goal.

Had to go shopping again today - had to try on some more 14's to see if I wasn't imagining things. Yep, they do fit - although jeans are tough because of my thighs. That's the first time in like FOREVER that I've had trouble fitting into something because of my thighs - it used to be my tummy that kept me out of stuff.

I'm happy about it - I don't mind wearing a 16 for a while, and when I get ready, the 14's will be there...I am just happy to be out of the 20's in my clothing sizes!

Loving my banded life right now - except that I'm stuck on a plateau, so I've gotta tighten up the nutrition and eating again - I must be doing something not-quite-right. I'm stuck at 5 pounds above Onederland and I wanna be there really, really BAD!

Gotta try to be patient and not stress myself out...that is definately bad for my band! Hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the weekend! :)

Lulu--my DH is like that too and I freaking HATE it! What is the point to buy seats then?? lol...

G4E---You and your BIL are in my thoughts. I hope it all goes well. Thanks for the congrats. 3 years went by so fast!

Ebony--congrats on the 14s. That is great. I hate the way jeans are cut these days. Those "skinny" jeans are a joke...

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

      3. Doughgurl

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

    • LeighaTR

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
